    Does Liquid Chlorine Rust AGP?

IMO, rust is a factor of how much water gets splashed into the T connectors. The Intex Ultra Frame (non-ATX) hardware is not protected on the inside. Any water that gets in there will start the rusting process very quickly. Any chance your neighbor has less splash activity in his pool vs yours?

Idea to help keep water out of Intex rails and t-connectors....

Hi tam430 I took a quick look through my garage looking for the pattern I know I had saved but I didn't have any luck tracking it down... Sorry about that... Here's a quick and dirty sketch (not to scale) that I hope helps. I started with a rectangle piece of vinyl measuring exactly 9 1/2" x...

Pre-Rust Protection: Intex Prism Rectangular Frame Pool

I'm very curious to see how these XTR models actually perform in regards to rust. They've only been available for a year, correct?

Pre-Rust Protection: Intex Prism Rectangular Frame Pool

Check out the "pool flaps" section of the link found in post #2. That was my primary solution (in addition to adding extra coats of Rust-Oleum to the open end of the poles and a bit of silicone to seal the bottoms) and I'm starting my second season with absolutely no rust (my last pool failed...

    Has intex quality dropped?

Btw, the "inward folds" are actually party of the design. They actually block water from being able to reach the sides of the t connectors. They also form a funnel on each side and would channel water that might enter safely down the outside of the legs. So far we haven't been able to get those...

    Has intex quality dropped?

We splash tested it alright. No water at the joints at all. Even pushed a "tsunami" wave over the side. There is nothing that is really going to keep the movement of the poles from eventually causing paint on the edges of the poles to come off (even after adding two extra coats of Rust-Oleum)...

    Has intex quality dropped?

Yes, getting a larger (sand) filter is definitely the way to go. Then add a skimmer, then hard plumb, etc etc. I've now got a pretty penny invested into my "cheap" Intex pool. Kinda wonder if I would've been better off buying a more permanent above ground pool. ?

UV protection for rim of Intex Above Ground pool

I bought and applied some 303 Protectant on the recommendation I found on this thread. Looks like I'll need to reapply every couple of months. One nice bonus of it's application is that the bird droppings come right off! ?

    Has intex quality dropped?

Here was our solution: We had a brand new Ultra Frame fail in a year. This is our replacement with mods to keep water away from the joints. In addition, we used clear silicone caulk to seal the connection of the vertical poles to the plastic feet (cups). By the looks of the large...

Which ladder for soft sided/intex style pool?

Just wanted to write an update on the Vinyl Works A Frame ladder we bought... While it is working pretty well for us, I am a little disappointed in how much it is starting to bow due to the ladder being stored (slid up) when not in use. Because the latch that holds the ladder up is on the right...

Idea to help keep water out of Intex rails and t-connectors....

UPDATE! I just finished installing this mod to my pool and splash tested it with a night swim with the kids ;) Passed the test with flying colors. Here's a pic of the finished product: Flaps were patterned and then cut out of vinyl coated PVC fabric and glued with HH-66 vinyl cement. The...

    rusty rails

Wait... What? Intex provided an out of warranty replacement? How far outside of the standard 90 days were you (if you don't mind me asking). I had a horrible experience with Intex last year and I'm surprised but hopeful that they've made some much needed changes in their policy. I'm happy that...

Fine dirt on pool bottom that clouds when vacuuming

Hmm. I've personally had issue with this in the past and have seen numerous posts here about the same problem. I'm using proper sand and actually have taken my sand filter apart in the past because I was worried about a cracked lateral or channelling... everything looked fine. Adding a little DE...

Idea to help keep water out of Intex rails and t-connectors....

I've made a few posts detailing the rust issues I've experienced with my Intex pools and am brainstorming some ideas in how to best prevent water from getting into the ends of the horizontal supports. My Ultra Frame uses plastic t-connectors with integrated locking pins. With my last Ultra...

Which ladder for soft sided/intex style pool?

Thanks splashpad. Did some research and ended up with the one you recommended. Got a good price on Amazon and it was delivered in two days (early this morning). Took about an hour and a half to assemble. Overall, I'm impressed with the quality to price ratio. It's heavier than I expected but...

    Intex XTR legs CREAKING!

Depending on how much the water gets moving, the pool will move and creak to some degree. That being said, an additional foot off water will certainly help stabilize things a bit more.

    Intex owners, trim your pool!

Nope. Pool on a elevated concrete pad with a river rock surround (no plants within 3' of the pool legs) and chemistry meticulously maintained. I've also actually been maintaining salt levels between 2200 and 3000ppm (below the recommended 3200ppm). The inside of the metal Ultra Frame pool...

Intex Ultra Frame rusted out in one year

Yes, I have the Ultra Frame as well and that is what I have done. However the Prism Frame are still using the metal t-connectors from the pictures I looked up. The simpler geometry of the parts should be much easier to tape up than the newer plastic joints on the Ultra Frames. Our first Intex...

Intex Ultra Frame rusted out in one year

I looked up the Prism Frame pools and it looks like the poles and t-connectors are round/oval. I would think that using 2" silicone tape over the connections (being sure to also cover the pins) would help keep water out of the joints. I would actually be tempted to try to find a way to cover the...

    Intex Customer Service ZERO HELP!

I filed a complaint last year and their tactic appears to be to repeatedly reply with the same stubborn response until the filer eventually gives up responding that their response is unsatisfsctory. However, I do feel it is beneficial to open a complaint. Perhaps the sheer number of complains...

    Insulation under pool

I've tried both. We used anti fatigue mats first and then decided to try 1" XPS foam when we got a larger pool. While the mats felt great, the XPS with gorilla pad on top stay together better and eliminate the lines that formed and collected sediment when we used the mats. We also used gorilla...

    Intex owners, trim your pool!

Now on our third (and last) Intex pool, I wanted to share a tip I found that can really help keep these pools trouble free. While balanced and properly sanitized water along with regular cleaning are the obvious first steps, I discovered a problem area in these pools where algae can form and...

Intex Ultra Frame rusted out in one year

    Intex ultra frame bent leg

Intex is horrible about providing compatibility info on their spare parts pages. You need to call them to inquire about parts to ensure you get the correct item(s). Many parts have been redesigned over the years and they don't list older revisions or indicate this fact on the website. I ordered...

    Intex or some other brand?

I think this is a case of "you get what you pay for". The Intex Ultra Frame we purchased last year only lasted one season before the legs rusted through. We bought another on clearance this year to replace the legs and are saving the other parts/liner as backups. We also purchased silicone tape...

Intex Ultra Frame rusted out in one year

The metal frame pools are made with thicker metal than the ultra frame. In our experience, our metal frame did show signs of rust on the bottom of the legs but the heavier gauge helped ward of failure for much longer than the ultra frame (like at least five times as long) Looking at our rusted...

Intex Ultra Frame rusted out in one year

Originally, we had the poles sitting on the XPS foam which really started to flatten over the course of the year. We just got our replacement today and have already bought some dark gray clay bricks to put under the new legs. We'll be cutting out notches in the foam to accommodate them.
