    Building fluid level gauge

Because I over engineer everything I do... But yes, I think a solid core 1.5" pool noodle would work perfectly. Thanks! That was a brilliant idea. Also much cheaper.

    Building fluid level gauge

I currently have a standard Stenner 15 gallon tank with mount for my pump. I am trying to make a gauge that will let me know exactly how much chlorine is left in the tank. My current plan is to run a capped 50" piece of 2" diameter polycarbonate tubing through a grommet on the flat surface of...

Any Good deals on Drums for Stenner?

Not cheaper, but in terms of function I would get one of these with the stand: 15 Gallon Blue Inductor Tank | Ace Roto-Mold INFD15-19LB

How often do you really test your water?

Same here. I only do once a week, or the night after a big party. I used to test daily, but once that Stenner was dialed in, it was so boringly consistent that I didn't need to. I start testing more frequently as I suspect the chlorine tank may be getting close to empty before I get my refill.

    Skim-A-Round modification

That sure is simpler than cutting peices of flat metal to fit into the foam area and then coating them with flex seal and gluing them in. But it is certainly easier. I will try that. But if it causes the skimmer basket to disconnect from the top, then I will try my complicated method.

    Skim-A-Round modification

I have a Kafko skimmer on my pool and have been having issues with the skimmer basket. The short tab on the top to lift it up breaks off easily, even after applying epoxy which lasted about 2 months. I did modify one with a universal handle that seems to work ok, but at the same time I ordered a...

    Pentair Challenger Problems

I covered that o-ring with lube. But that is a good point. I can just bring the diffuser to the pool store and find an o-ring that fits. I have actually spent the past few days researching new pumps and am now planning on getting a digital timer. After learning about up/full rated I am leaning...

    Pentair Challenger Problems

I replaced all the seals in my old (previous owner installed) Pump to try and solve a leaking problem. The labels tell me it is a Pac-Fab (Challenger) CFII-N1-1A. Which comes out to a 1HP Standard Up Rate pump. So the diffuser o-ring in the GOKIT5 seems to be a bit thinner than the worn...

    Pool full of green sludge

Test the water first. If the CYA is high, then you will need to do at least a partial drain anyway. You should stop using the Frog system. The "Mineral" pack is just introducing silver nitrate. It is not necessary when you have the right amount of chlorine in the water, and can lead to staining...

    Newbie please help

DO NOT SWIM IN THAT POOL! Get a good test kit, add chlorine to the pool (liquid bleach or 10-12.5% liquid chlorine), and get your chemicals to the target levels in here: PoolMath You will need to estimate the amount of water in your pool to make this work. You can try sites like this to figure...

    Stenner pump tank

You are keeping it 3" above to avoid dirt and sediment, correct? Judging by the picture, that will be much less than a gallon, I can live with that.

    Stenner pump tank

Good catch. 40" puts it just under 3.5'. That may actually make it easier for me to fill since I won't have to bend over the whole time. If using a siphon you will need to elevate the tank higher than that, but with an opening so large it may be easier to just pour straight from the jug. I fill...

    Stenner pump tank

I have been very happy with the results of my Stenner pump install over the past year. However, I have noticed a few small things that I would like to improve. As you can see from the link in my signature, I hooked it up to come on with the pump, which is working pretty as I can adjust the...

Pool testing for the color impaired

I'll chime in on this one as I had the same issue. I opted to get a kit that is not always as highly regarded as the recommended kits here, but has served me well for a few seasons. I use the LaMotte 2056 ColorQ Pro 7 which is a digital reader with liquid reagents. The drops do change the water...

    Stenner Pump

I had the same idea when I switched to a Stenner pump. Ultimately it was just easier to remove the entire chlorinator and plump in a T section that includes a threaded section for the Stenner injector. You can see the details through the link in my signature. If I ever have a problem with the...

Advice from Pool Store on CYA

Do not rely on the test from the pool store. From experience they have never been accurate. One test said my CYA was at 40, and the next day it tested at 0. Shortly after it was tested at over 100. I have since learned that the pool store doesn't actually care about being accurate and just wants...

Anyone have a new(er) Ford Explorer? (pic)

I've been looking for a new car to replace an aging Jeep Commander. The Ford Explorer was high on the list. But after all of my research, I think I am set on the 2018 Chevy Traverse. It gives me the 3rd row that my wife demands, and for the first time actually has decent towing ability. Also...

    Pool is half empty overnight!

I've only seen this happen when the multiport valve is accidentally left on waste or backwash after cleaning. A leak would normally take a lot more time to drain that amount of water without a clearly visible hole or liner separation. If you are still losing water with the pump off I would...

Fix leak in PVC. Repair guy said 200-300!

Because there is not enough room and those pieces are glued together with PVC cement, effective making them solid pieces. It is not hard to do this yourself. You buy the pieces that you need: As Chemnut listed (2) 1.5" Tees (1) 1.5"-1/2" reducer (2) 1.5" couplers (1) 1.5" ball valve Maybe 1'...

    Stenner pump install

I have the Stenner OEM 15 gallon tank. I only got it because my original plan to buy a 15 gallon chlorine deldrum fell through and it was just easier to buy the tank when I bought the pump. It is just a tank with this: MP80000 Stenner Mounting Bracket - Cannon Water Technology mounted on it. You...

Can't figure out problem with filter, DE and air in return

I'm still working on this... sort of. The DE in the pool is just backflowing in from the drain and skimmer when the pump loses prime while I was messing with the multiport. I just vacuumed it back up. As for the air bubbles, it continued to get worse. I filmed a syringe with pvc cement and...

SWG Pool Water Usage in Immersion Chiller for Homebrew

I don't see any problem with it. The salt content is not that high where you will have to worry about buildup. Rinsing with regular tap water from the hose will be enough to flush anything out if it was too much. My only question is why would you go through all this trouble? Why wouldn't you...

Pump with easy to remove basket lid

I think that may be a good pump for me. If I hard wire the VS pump, then I can use my existing timer to just power the stenner pump. I was making it much more difficult in my head.

Can't figure out problem with filter, DE and air in return

I have given up on the pressure side. Though I am always looking for an excuse to replace that multiport to the correct size... Yes, I did torque that screw down and it actually did help with the flow in the pump basket. But it did not solve the issue. I didn't strip the threads, but I will be...

Can't figure out problem with filter, DE and air in return

Yes, but not very much. When it is off for a hours, the water slowly goes back down. It takes between 5-15 seconds for it fill up again before it is done priming and moves water out of the returns. I only have one joint that is above ground that I can check. I'll do that tonight.

Pump with easy to remove basket lid

I have the Pentair PAC-FAB 3/4HP Pump listed in my sig. My pump is old and is starting to make some not so good noise when it is running. Also, I am having bubbles in my returns which I cannot figure out - there is a small possibility that the pump could be the cause. Either way, due to the...

    Pool Vacuum

That is good. That is the way I do it. Anything that can get into the vacuum hose will be sucked all the way through to the pump basket. You will have to empty that out after you finish vacuuming. It is usually just leaves and dead bugs. If they are going to clog, they will clog the vacuum...
