Give up on above ground pool?

Ok, thanks. I had calculated the pump we needed based on gallons of water and came up with that one as fine, but I'll look into something different. So just to clarify, if we had a better pump, that would take care of the problem? Thanks

Give up on above ground pool?

I have chronic pain so the pool is good for me, especially with pools not opening possibly this summer because of Covid. However, we've had a really hard time with our above-ground pool, and spent way too much on it so far. When we moved into the house it hadn't been used for a while, so...

    CYA testing/adding troubles

Thank you, yes I do use the sock method as I read about it on here last year and didn't want to damage our skimmer/filter. I'll try the 20 ppm more. I was aiming for a lower level of CYA (30ppm) so I wouldn't have to use as much bleach. Thanks

    CYA testing/adding troubles

We just recently got our pool filled for the summer after having to buy a liner and new pump. I added CYA aiming for a level of 30 last week, and found out I was out of CYA reagent, so got it today, and it was close to being measured, but I filled the tester as full as I could and the black...

Chlorine tabs good idea or not? Says will also lower pH, will lower TA?

Ok, skip the pucks:) We do have a Menards now, I"ll look for the shock you mentioned. My PoolSchool app has target pH at 7.2. I thought it shouldn't go above 7.4, so that's when I've been adding muriatic acid. Muriatic acid is the more costly thing so far, about 6.00/gallon. Thanks

Chlorine tabs good idea or not? Says will also lower pH, will lower TA?

So I could use the pucks for a little while though until the CYA is around 50? I'm spending a lot weekly on chlorine and muriatic acid, so the pucks might help me get to a more manageable pH and TA sounds like?

Chlorine tabs good idea or not? Says will also lower pH, will lower TA?

The previous owners left an unopened 40lb bucket of chlorine tablets and I'm wondering if I should be using those? Says to use 1/week in the skimmer. So far I'm using 10% liquid chlorine and have to put in about half a gallon each night to keep FC between 4-7. It's always 2.0 after kids swim...

    Thanks, I'll try that.

    Basic maintenance steps?

Thank you, that's what I was looking for but couldn't find it with the forum search for some reason.

Bad test results, from rain water?

Yes, you can see a dime and I can see the bottom well. It just didn't seem as clear as last week, but it has way more chlorine now than it did a week ago (FC was 1). I can post a pic. What is OCLT?

    Basic maintenance steps?

We are finally getting the pool where it needs to be with consistent FC and pH numbers. I was just wondering what the basic maintenance daily/weekly is for most people because i'm running out of testing reagents quickly. I'm thinking I should check FC daily, and maybe pH? Then CYA weekly...

Bad test results, from rain water?

Finished the slam the other day, free chlorine isn't dropping much overnight. Confused about the CYA level, seems like I should be able to check it once and it should stay pretty constant. I do the same thing each time, but it changes. It was 50 the other day, today was about 35(so I think I...

Bad test results, from rain water?

One more question, pooldv, you said "Then add 30 ppm CYA, adjust pH to 7.2 and SLAM the pool to kill the algae and bacteria." I've read I need to wait a week after adding to get accurate CYA levels, so am I getting the pool to 30ppm over that week before adjusting pH, or just adding the CYA now...

Bad test results, from rain water?

Test results a couple days ago: FC - 2.5 CC -5 pH - 7.6 TA - 200 CH - 310 CYA - 35 Test results this morning: FC - 0 CC or TC - 0 TA - 185 pH -7.8 CYA - 0 It has rained a lot here recently; the pool was too full and was losing a little bit through the skimmer, but is that enough to lose all...

Kit arrived, test results, what steps to add chemicals?

How do I add 3 ppm, do you just mean add chlorine and keep checking until it's 3ppm? Run the pump for a while before adding CYA, or add both at the same time and then pump? And the sock with CYA goes in or by the skimmer? I was thinking the chlorine would just dissipate without the CYA? I...

Kit arrived, test results, what steps to add chemicals?

Here are the test results using the Taylor K-2006 kit. I also listed the Pool Math app recommendations, but it's been a bit confusing lately and time consuming as it doesn't save any of my results FC - 0 CC or TC - Didn't check this as I didn't have pink water to change into clear? pH - 7.6...

Newly filled pool already has cyanuric acid?

Can kids swim in it yet? It has been filled for a week now while we work on it, and they are ancy!:) It's not cloudy, test strips show no free chlorine, we've used 1.5 gallons so far.

Newly filled pool already has cyanuric acid?

Thank you, getting a test kit and wishing I had done that a week ago instead of adding all the muriatic acid/chlorine, sounds like should have started with the CYA.

Newly filled pool already has cyanuric acid?

We had to get a new liner for our 15,000gallon above ground pool at the house we bought, and we filled the pool, checked the cyanuric acid level and it was 30-50 on the 7 way test strips, which said ideal. Is that normal not to have to add any CA to a new pool? It's hard city water, out in the...
