    Pool Just Opened - A Few Q’s

As you suspected, the FC dropped to 8 by yesterday afternoon. We then measured the pH at 7.1 and the TA at 50. We are picking up some Borax to raise the pH and have some baking soda to raise the TA. Is it okay to turn on the heat pump now, or should we wait to get those levels right? Can we...

    Pool Just Opened - A Few Q’s

We just successfully completed the OCLT. FC was at 12 last night, and was still at 12 this morning. CC held at .5. The water is crystal clear. Can we consider the SLAM complete? Do we need to let the FC drift down to normal levels before using the pool? Assume we also need to test pH and TA...

    Pool Just Opened - A Few Q’s

Yesterday we started the day with FC of 3.5 but had it between 11 and 14.5 the rest of the day. It was down to 4.0 this morning but we had heavy thunderstorms and a power outage last evening. The water is looking pretty clear now but isn't quite there yet.

    Pool Just Opened - A Few Q’s

Started the day at FC of 1.5 but it went up to 9.5 by the second test and has now been hanging around 11. The CC has been zero but was back to .5 just now. We’ve using CYA of 30 (targeting FC of 12 for the SLAM) since that’s around what it’s been other than that one test. The pool is definitely...

    Pool Just Opened - A Few Q’s

Yes, we are still on SLAM. No ammonia issues that I’m aware of. Not sure if we need to do something different to get to 10 ppm chlorine, if that comment was intended for me. I remember last year we needed to do a big blast of chlorine at one point and am wondering if that will be needed again...

Brushed hard and tested again. FC dropped to 1. Added another 2.5 gals of chlorine which is all we have left until we restock in the morning. We have a tree that started dropping a lot of debris today which may not be helping. We’re trying to keep the pool is clean as we can though.

FC is now down to 1.5 and CC is down to .5. Brush before adding the next round of chlorine?

The pump is at 2800 but can turn it up to 3000 or higher if that would be good. The water doesn't really stink of chlorine. The chlorine itself doesn't smell as much as I remember it but we're told that it's fresh. The CC is at 4.0. I also confirmed that the 27k gal estimate should be pretty close.

The FC is still hovering between 3.5 and 4. CYA is between 30 and 35. It looks like there now some little oil slicks on the surface of the pool. Anything to be concerned about?

Ok, I'll turn the chlorinator off now. Glad I mentioned that.

    Pool Just Opened - A Few Q’s

Yes, those organics have chowed on many gallons of the stuff so farand I've been starting to wonder if they'll ever be satisfied. Can't wait to get to that crystal clear water! :) I'm thinking about whether we should do anything different with the chlorinator, which uses chlorine pucks. I...

Will do. Just added another 2.5 gals. Thinking of trying to step up the frequency to every 60 or 90 minutes to see if we can get on top it. We haven't been able to get back to anywhere near the target FC since last night.

    Pool Just Opened - A Few Q’s

Just did another FC test and chlorine add. FC was back down to 4. Added another 2.5 gals per app recommendation. Confirmed with the local hardware store that the liquid chlorine was fresh this season but they don't have a date (and there doesn't appear to be one on the label).

    Pool Just Opened - A Few Q’s

We added more CYA yesterday afternoon to try to get it up to 30. Seems like there was a bit of a lag and it overshot the mark. We haven't drained any water and actually added some yesterday since the level was getting a little low due to the back-washing. We just tested FC again ~15 minutes...

    Pool Just Opened - A Few Q’s

The FC was back down to 2.0 this morning (from 13 last night). CC was unchanged at 3.5 and CYA was up to 40. Followed the app's recommendation and just added another 3 gals of chlorine. Also just vacuumed and brushed again. It's been unusually warm here for this time of year (~90 degrees) so...

    Pool Just Opened - A Few Q’s

We just did our final test and chlorine add for the day. We went a little heavier on the chlorine and tested from a part of the deep end across from the return we’ve been adding the chlorine by. When we tested it 15 minutes after the add, the FC had jumped to 13 and the CC was 3.5. Hopefully...

The FC was 5 (up from 4) 15 minutes after the last chlorine ad. we just did another round and the FC was now up to 7.

Will do. The 27k gal pool volume was a guess by the person who opens and closes the pool. It's a Lazy L shape and may be hard to estimate.

    Pool Just Opened - A Few Q’s

I'm wondering if we need to hit it with a bit more chlorine than what the app is suggesting just so we can get the FC up to the SLAM target (12)? Or, does this risk the CC going too high?

    Pool Just Opened - A Few Q’s

There's a touch of a chlorine smell but pretty mild (especially given how much we've added).

    Pool Just Opened - A Few Q’s

No, we haven't been to the pool store this year. We've gotten the liquid chlorine and CYA from the local hardware store. Yesterday, we tested and added about every 2 hours and can do that again today? Or do you think we need to do it more frequently than that?

    Pool Just Opened - A Few Q’s

We did 4 rounds of testing and chemical additions yesterday. Yesterday evening the FC was up to 9.5, the CC was 2.0 and the CYA was almost 30. This morning the FC was down to 3.0, the CC was up to 4.0 and the CYA was down to 20. We just added more liquid chlorine and CYA. Is this typical for the...

Making sure we have enough liquid chlorine on hand for the SLAM. We've been getting 2.5 gal containers of SuperChlor from the local hardware store and have 3 here now. The ingredients say it's 12.5% sodium hypochlorite. What we should select for Type of Sanitizer in the Pool Math app?

    Pool Just Opened - A Few Q’s

We bought two 4 lb bags of HTH stabilizer (98.5% CYA granules). We put about 3 lbs each in 2 different socks and have them hanging near 2 returns. We weren't able to get them right in front though so they're off to the side and not in the direct stream. It seems like the stuff only comes out in...

We found a nearby hardware store that has the CYA in stock. I reread your comments below and now not sure whether you're recommending the full SLAM process or just referring to parts of it. '...raise your FC to 12 ppm which is SLAM level for 30 ppm CYA. Test and maintain 12 ppm FC until you...
