Levels Good But Cloudy and Consuming Chlorine

Thanks for the tip. I haven’t looked at Menards. My go-to is Atwood’s Online Pool Shock. $1.99 for 10%. They ran out so I turned to their bleach for a few days.

Levels Good But Cloudy and Consuming Chlorine

Btw I checked the bottle. It does not give any information on mix of chemicals (hypochlorite or otherwise). Doe say it rapidly deteriorated into salt water but that’s essentially all hypochlorite, right?

Levels Good But Cloudy and Consuming Chlorine

Thanks! My last CYA reading was 30 which didn’t make much since to me as I have added 7.75lbs since opening. Granted, I did have to drain a couple times due to rain. I am very cautious to add as last summer when I bought the house it was almost 200 and had to drain several times. I am going to...

Levels Good But Cloudy and Consuming Chlorine

TA 95 PH 7.7 CH 225 Temp 87 One thing I did observe is that it is windy and there are ripples on the pool so that could be causing the slight lack of clarity - it is slight. Also, does the temp of the water impact clarity? Thanks!

Levels Good But Cloudy and Consuming Chlorine

Good morning. Would appreciate everyone’s insight here. Over the last few days temps have jumped up to 95 plus. We have also been swimming several hours most evenings because of this. I’m assuming this puts a much higher load on the chlorine and may explain at least part of this. At the same...

    How Critical Is Backwash

Just had a thought while sitting at work. I have been vacuuming regularly but top step still collects little seeds and random debris. I can’t vacuum there so sometimes it collects a small amount and might sit there a day. Would that start to consume chlorine that quick or is that a non issue...

    How Critical Is Backwash

Thanks for the feedback guys. I will look into both of those. This morning I passed my OCLT but I’m checking again tonight to make sure I didn’t miss count my drops! Great to hear I’ll lose less when I’m at non SLAM levels. I’ve only slammed, closed and opened my pool so far so excited to swim...

    Liquid chlorine prices up?

I discovered the same about a week ago! Where did you find the Julian date?

    How Critical Is Backwash

Ice shadow, when I opened I did an OCLT and had a loss greater than 1ppm so I understood as needing to SLAM. wireform, I’ve been performing good each night. Today’s result is getting very near 1ppm (1.5) so I am nowseeing progress. original rocket, I used a mesh cover (mounts are in concrete...

    How Critical Is Backwash

Its crystal clear. Sometimes can’t tell water is in it. Shade over most now so hard to see. Just turned my pump off and yes it fell to zero. Now back at 15 with pump on.

    How Critical Is Backwash

Hi Texas, Added stabilizer via sock in skimmer as recommended. I am seeing the results, just read not to backwash for a week after adding. Filter is brand new (last summer). Haven’t done anything with it yet. Does this seem too long to SLAM?

    How Critical Is Backwash

Hi Everyone, I opened my pool after a TFP style closing last year to crystal clear water. I had some dirt at the bottom that I vacuumed straight to waste and then, after testing, jumped into my SLAM. It has been a week now which seems long considering the clarity of water. This is only my second...

    Losing Prime

Duraleigh, just saw your post. So maybe it’s a slow leak and letting the pressure off the filter made it seem to go away. I will check again tonight. My ph is drifting up which seems to indicate air entering the system as well. I assumed maybe it was the liquid bleach I’m adding causing that but...

    Losing Prime

This morning I worked the multi port back and forth to different settings, reprimed, backwashed and then fires it back up. Problem seems to be gone. I can shut it off and back on without losing prime. I’m assuming it’s an issue with the multi port.

    Losing Prime

Yes and the pressure reading is low (15).

    Losing Prime

Hi everyone. Just opened my pool for the first time post TFP. Pleased to say the water is crystal clear! I’m working on bringing up CYA (not registering on tube test yet) and ran my pump for 24hrs with sock in skimmer. This evening when I shut off the pump, water came rushing backwards in the...

    Antifreeze

    Great. Thanks!

    Antifreeze

Also I poured some antifreeze in the skimmer when closing and now there is a thick ring of white slime built out all around the skimmer. Is this the antifreeze doing something normal or should I be concerned? Thanks

    Antifreeze

Hi everyone. First time opening and I just want to make sure that I just release this pink marine rv grade antifreeze from my winterized lines into the pool, correct?

    Is shocking a must?

Good point regarding freeze line. Thanks. Skimmer is much deeper than that. I hear a little in the returns but probably over cautious. This is my first winter.

    Is shocking a must?

Ok I’m on the final stretch. I have blown out line but still hear a little bit of water gurgling way down in the pipes. Do I need to worry about getting every last bit out or does the antifreeze do the rest? Thanks

    Is shocking a must?

Hello everyone. Trying to close my pool this afternoon for first time following the methods recommended here. I could not find polyquat locally but found a GLB product with an identical active ingredient. When I went to add it, I noticed it is like a brown thick oil. It seemed counterintuitive...

    Is shocking a must?

Bump... Sorry to bump so soon but trying to get closer this afternoon and weather is turning. Can anyone confirm if Algaecide should look like brown oil? Thanks!

    Is shocking a must?

GLB. Yes, 60% that exact chemical string

    Is shocking a must?

Thanks. I was able to find an algaecide with the same active ingredient. Is it supposed to be thick and brown like an oil? I’m hesitant to add to my beautiful water...:)

    Is shocking a must?

One more question. I have not found polyquat 60 locally but Menards has Utikem 50% Algaecide. It says it’s dimethyl benzoyl ammonium chloride. Is this a good algecide? I don’t see copper mentioned which I know to be bad for your pool. Thanks

    Is shocking a must?

Will algecide help kill anything that may be there?

    Is shocking a must?

Ok great. I’m new to pools but I am pretty confident. I had a long battle with a green pool two months ago. Slam was about 10 days. Water is still very clear. Fc loss seems to be about 1ppm per day. Would this give you confidence? May not have a choice now anyway.
