    Another drain pool thread...

I tested for phosphates and they are at approx. 200.

    Another drain pool thread...

Should I also test for nitrates and if so are the strips ok for that?

    Another drain pool thread...

I will pick up the kit mentioned. Do I need another kit to test for salt? If phosphates are of no consequence are there any other kits I should be picking up to test for things that might be of consequence in this situation or others that arise in the future? Just before I parted ways with the...

    Another drain pool thread...

Since taking over the maintenance of my pool I have been struggling to keep the algae away. I have been through the SLAM process successfully twice now as a result of yellow algae. I have been diligently brushing and vacuuming the pool and cleaning the filter. As per the Chlorine / CYA chart I...

    On my own!

Just wanted to follow up and say thanks. Pool is looking great and no more yellow stuff since completing the slam.

    On my own!

Been SLAMing for 3 days now. No CL loss overnight, CC = 0 and yellow stuff is completely gone. Going to let CL levels drop back to normal. I’m thinking 7 or 8 ppm as my CYA was about 55. Does that make sense?

Their is a valve where I can somewhat control where the pump sucks the water from out of the pool. When SLAMing should I set it so the majority of the water is coming from return at the bottom of the pool or the skimmer or should I split the difference?

Thanks I already figured the concentration differences. I also used the calculator (Web version) and rounded up a bit too much maybe. Was shooting for FC = 24. Ended up at 29. :)

    On my own!

Love the squirt bottles. Still using the one they gave me a few weeks ago the first time I went there. They said returning the items was against their policy but they took them back anyway. Grabbed a few jugs of chlorine and left with more money than I went in with. ETA to SLAM commencement...

    On my own!

Going to try and return some stuff they already talked me into and pickup the chlorine at the same time. Will keep you posted.

Before I start the SLAM should I lower the PH? It is currently in the 7.8 to 8.0 range. Not sure if that is going to cause my TA, which is at 80, to drop causing other issues. Also I only have pucks, powdered chlorine and powdered shock. I understand I should not use any of those for the SLAM...

    On my own!

I'm definitely avoiding the pool stores now. I'm running around rubbing my hand across the top of my grill, outdoor table and other outdoor flat surfaces trying to convince myself this is pollen. I do see a very thin film of yellowy/greeny/browny dust on the surfaces but it is trivial amounts...

    On my own!

Just checked the pool and I can see the yellow stuff coming back again on the walls and bottom of the pool. Not sure what is going on. Is there some way this could still be yellow algae despite the chlorine levels not dropping over the course of 3 days?

    On my own!

It's been 2.5 days since I started this thread and I have not added any chemicals to the pool since I posted my original numbers. I have only been brushing the pool, vacuuming the pool and cleaning the filter. I've done this 3 times. I just took another full set of readings and they are almost...

I was using 10ml/.5 and then went to 25ml/.2 thinking it would be more accurate. I will switch back. I will monitor loss over several days taking the reading at the same time each day.

    On my own!

Cleaned the filter. Lots of yellow coming out of it. Brushed and vacuumed, then did the overnight test. Starting FC was 7.6 at 7p (it was dark out). Pool is about 68 degrees btw. Not sure why FC was higher than my previous measurement of 6.5 earlier in the day other than I did still have the...

    On my own!

I reported TA as 85 as the eighth drop started the colour change, the ninth completed it. I will round up in the future. I started with chlorine pucks and they were slow to make a difference so I went to liquid but was told (again at the pool store) that the liquid version of chlorine has...

    On my own!

Pool person quit. Going to do my own maintenance. Below are the numbers from today that I took myself using Taylor K-2006 kit. Pool store told me yesterday when I had them test a sample that TDS = 3200 and nitrates are at 40 and recommended I drain the pool. There is something yellow on the...

    On my own.

Been doing lots of reading. Decided to jump on here for some real help. I purchased the Taylor K-2006 test kit. Pool store said I need to drain the pool mainly related to TDS = 3200 and nitrates at 40. Just trying to figure out if that is really necessary.

    On my own.

The individual maintaining my pool quit. Going to go it on my own. Yellow algae in pool. Bought a test kit, went to Leslie’s lol. I’m off to the races. How complicated could it be?
