    SF Bay Area New Pool

I just let the PB do his thing with the basic latch to pass inspection and I added a padlock on the inside of the gate.

    SF Bay Area build (done!!!)

I had my SWG set at 50% for 8 hours a day with the cover on and the FC still crept up about 4ppm in two weeks. I have to let mine drift down and lower the percentage a tad. Just have to play around with it to see where the FC will maintain itself. Good luck!

    SF Bay Area New Pool

Interesting! Same exact thing happened to our build. The city said our kitchen and fire pit were not on the approved plans. It was only on the “reference” plan that was not approved and stamped reference only. Except ours is fully completed before they called it out on our final inspection...

    Salt Water Pool with Cover

My pool temp topped out at 82 (with no cover installed yet) and is now at 68 with the cover. My pool wasn’t completed when we had those 100 degree heat waves. Did your pool reach the high 80’s with the cover on or without?

    Salt Water Pool with Cover

I’ve been running it for 8 hours at 80% and the FC seems to be creeping up. I bumped the percentage down to 60% to see what that does.

    Salt Water Pool with Cover

Thanks! Good to know. I was a little worried whether or not I should open it up or leave it covered. I’ll make sure everything looks good, brushed, and final test before I cover it back up and leave.

    Salt Water Pool with Cover

My CYA is around 50-60 right now. I think that’s good considering the cover. I’m just worried about keeping it covered up for extended periods for traveling or vacations. Is being covered up for two weeks risky?

    Salt Water Pool with Cover

I do plan to open it up during the day, 2-3 times a week while check and brush the pool. On a nice day, that’s not too windy, I could probably leave it open a bit longer. @wireform what would you consider is too long to keep it covered that CC might be an issue?

    Salt Water Pool with Cover

I have a salt water pool with an automatic cover. The plan is to keep it covered most of the time when not in use. I know I have read that this might affect how much CYA I should have and how much FC I should maintain. Some say that it falls in the realm of an "indoor" pool when kept covered...

Cover Pools Automatic Pool Covers Experience/Reviews?

Yeah, there is drainage in the box, but I still see standing water in there. Maybe the angles of the drainage doesn't quite get all the water out. I should fill the vault with some water to see how high it might get just in case.

Cover Pools Automatic Pool Covers Experience/Reviews?

It looks to be a nice pool cover. All the parts seem like they are good quality. However, after finding out which brand I got and started searching the web, it sounds like many people are not happy with it.

Cover Pools Automatic Pool Covers Experience/Reviews?

Got it, I will flip through the manual to familiarize myself with what they suggest. I can imagine what kind of critters will live in that trench. Even before the cover went in, I could already see webs being formed in there. Does your cover pull a bit of water in there, and it becomes standing...

Thanks! I will look into that. I've been noticing my PB is not quite the electrical guru he should be. I have fixed a number of his mistakes.

Cover Pools Automatic Pool Covers Experience/Reviews?

Thanks for the feedback Monty! So far, the the cover looks great and is functioning as intended. What kind of preventative maintenance have you done with the cover itself to keep it in good shape? All my equipment is Jandy as well. I definitely like the automation so far. One thing that I am...

Running equipment 24/7 for two weeks?

In my area, there is a tiered pricing structure. Tier 1 and 2 is fairly normal. I hit the 3rd tier which had overage use surcharge. That surcharge was a 3rd of my bill and that alone was more than what my bill normally would be.

Running equipment 24/7 for two weeks?

That's what I'm guessing as well. Now that my water is all balanced, SWG is running, and pool cover being installed today, I will no longer have to run the pumps to circulate the water. The single speed is only on for 30 min a day and will probably turn that off completely and only turn it on...

Running equipment 24/7 for two weeks?

Got my first electric bill today after starting up my pool and running my pumps 24/7 for 2-3 weeks. I ran the VS pump on low most of the time, but my water feature pump is a single speed and that ran continuously for a good 2 weeks. My bill was triple!!! Yikes!!! I really need to fine tune my...

Cover Pools Automatic Pool Covers Experience/Reviews?

Curious to know if anyone on here is using the Cover Pools automatic pool cover? My automatic pool cover is finally going in and I did not know who the manufacturer was until today. Looking them up on the web, it doesn't sound like they are getting very good reviews on customer service and...

SLAM FC Readings... Pass or Fail?

Thanks Marty. It has been crystal clear since day one even before the SLAM process started.

SLAM FC Readings... Pass or Fail?

Last night's and this morning's readings were 14.5 then 13.5 with a 10ml sample, cc is at 0. Should I do one more 10ml sample test tonight and in the morning or do you think I'm safe?

I dumped some bleach in mine when I saw some mosquito larvae and that seem to kill them off for a week, then repeat as needed.

SLAM FC Readings... Pass or Fail?

Thanks, I will let it drift down and try the OCLT again. I read another thread that suggested a 5ml sample was OK to do. I was just trying to save on some reagents. Dropping 50 drops sure does use it up fast!

SLAM FC Readings... Pass or Fail?

I am having some trouble with my FC readings. I started a SLAM five days ago. First OCLT on 9/17 was 4.5 and in the morning it was 2.0. That is when I initiated a SLAM. 9/18 OCLT 22 PM 21 AM based on 10ml sample 9/19 24 PM 20 AM 5ml sample 9/20 30 PM 29 AM 5ml sample 9/21 26 PM 24 AM 5ml sample...

My 30 day initial start up is done, now what?

To be honest, I probably would not have caught it early on like this. It only raised a red flag because I was adding in the salt to get my SWG started up and noticed it was not producing any chlorine. Two factors came in to play, not enough salt for the SWG to show FC levels, and any FC in the...

My 30 day initial start up is done, now what?

Last nights OCLT went from 22 down to 21. That seems like such a quick recovery considering I lost 2.5 the night before and just started the SLAM yesterday mid morning?

    SF Bay Area build (done!!!)

Keep that FC up, apparently my guy did not even keep the minimum FC for very long. Maybe hit it once and the rest has been WAY below. Now its up to me to fix it. Technically, he started on 8/19 so he should be on the hook. I will be sure to have a talk with my PB about this one. Not a happy...

My 30 day initial start up is done, now what?

Looking at my FC consumption, I really did not have an issue until the salt was added. If you take a look at 9/14, I added 1 gal of 6% bleach to bump up my FC from 1.0 to 3.2. I also added 4 bags of salt at that time. That was at night. The next morning my FC was at 2.8. On 9/16 is when I...
