Tips for using mesh leaf cover over winter cover on IG pool pls!

Yes, that's our intent; it comes off after the leaves fall & then it'll go back on to at opening in early spring to catch the copious early spring yellow tree debris...

Tips for using mesh leaf cover over winter cover on IG pool pls!

For anyone looking to add a mesh leaf cover over their winter cover that employs water bags, here's what ours looks like. We tossed in some beach balls to keep the mesh cover raised above the winter cover. We'll see how it goes over the next 2 months while leaves come down. Once that's over...

Tips for using mesh leaf cover over winter cover on IG pool pls!

See photo as we have different cover system from yours. Ours dips down greatly, collecting water & leaves, making leaf removal very difficult.

Tips for using mesh leaf cover over winter cover on IG pool pls!

No blower we own is powerful enough to blow heavy, wet leaves off the winter cover. We're hoping that adding a leaf cover (until all the leaves are down in Jan) will help the backbreaking chore of wet leaf removal. The skimmer basket issue happens in the spring after we open the pool. . Hope...

Tips for using mesh leaf cover over winter cover on IG pool pls!

Appreciate advice for using a mesh leaf cover over IG pool winter cover. I'm about to order one unless people find them useless. The idea is to put it over winter cover, remove it after all leaves are down & put it back on at early spring opening to avoid skimmer basket clogging with spring tree...

    Vinyl IG closing LC

Tks Pool_Medic! We've never used PolyQuat at closing & pool is always sparkly clear at opening. Last year was first time we closed it very late, but can't do that this year, so I guess we should get some PolyQuat due to early closing! Tks again!

    Vinyl IG closing LC

Hi all! Hope everyone in the northern climates had a great swimming season! We did; our 2nd year of TFP methodology & LC! Closing our vinyl-liner IG pool today. I slammed it 3 days ago, but wondering whether ideal LC on day of closing should be higher than normal range (for my pool, that would...

    Pool water collection device??

Yes, this would be great but I don't see how it collects water an elbow's length down unless I'm missing something & the bottle goes into water upside down and then flips over when desired depth is reached...Love the idea though!

    Pool water collection device??

Hi - Not sure where to post this, but has anyone come across a device that collects water from about 18" down? My old knees & back are getting tired of this daily ritual... The cup would have to turn over once at that depth, otherwise I could easily make my own I think. Tried googling & only...

    LC % test?

Yes - I totally misread something about retesting after 15 mins thinking that directive was for FC after adding LC! I needed to wait 3 hrs. As far as doing "science experiments", I truly felt the cases of LC might have degraded so it made sense to me to check my pool after adding the LC. That's...

    LC % test?

It's been 3 hrs since I added the LC & I just retested. Pool water is exactly where it was supposed to be after LC addition so for my pool, I need to wait 3 hours for total circulation it seems. Big relief! (I had only waited one hour the first time so while it had more FC than before, it was 2...

    LC % test?

Hi - I suspect the remaining case of LC I bought a month ago might have dropped in potency. Is there a ratio of (non-chlorinated) water to LC I need to follow (using the DPD testing method)? I'm science tech-challenged, so if this is an idiotic question, pls be gentle...;) back story: The...

Vinyl Liner Pattern Roundup Project - Post Pic & Name Of Your Liner

Hi meporchmonkey! Dark liners can/do fade! Our installer for a replacement liner (after 22 years with a light pebble liner) talked us into a very deep blue (navyish). Now, after 10 yrs it's fading like crazy each year... so much I now worry it will be white in the next few years! (orig liner...

    Accuracy of Taylor test strips

I find the AquaChek 7 test strips to be ok when in a pinch or as a back up, but I need to wait at least one minute for the PH to develop to the reading I get with phenol red. I know my PH is 7.6-7.7 but the strips read 6.8 unless I wait that minute (or a bit more even). I think the 15 secs is...

    Low to little CYA

Tks! That's pretty much how I do it, except for the glancing. Just spoke to Wayne at Taylor & he also assured me that the R-0013 is very stable & would turn milky if bad. So about to get some trichlor pucks for the auto feeder to raise the cya as we did last year! But will try your "glance"...

    Low to little CYA

Hi all - Been doing "TFP" since last spring & test chlorine via DPD method. We live in sw CT. Weather's been up & down. Water temp is down to 73 due to cooler weather; entire pool only gets sun from approx 9 am - 2 pm, with a tiny portion getting sun til 4. Hardly using pool (once a week, 8 &...

    Old Pool Math?

    Old Pool Math?

Hi all! Just opened our pool yesterday and can't seem to find the Pool Math chart that I used all of last year. I can only find apps for cell phone etc. I have a laptop computer I use. I'm sure it's here but have looked for 20 mins so gave up & decided to ask. Tks! (I also wonder where all my...

    Does water sample location matter???

Very normal & you test as I do, including the white paper towel. So all good if one drop clears the pink. Result is read immediately, because waiting will always turn it back to pink! I have no explanation for that but was my first question when I switched over to this test method this year!

    Does water sample location matter???

Burning eyes could signal PH test is off & actual reading might be lower than 7.5. What do you use to test the PH? Check exp date on the bottle if using drops. (mine is expired so on my way to Leslie's...) Good luck!

Taylor Phenol Red 0014 VERSUS HTC phenol red comparator compatibility?

Tks! That's what I thought but wanted confirmation as being new here this season, I've learned how important it is to use the correct agents with the correct testing equipment! ;)

Taylor Phenol Red 0014 VERSUS HTC phenol red comparator compatibility?

Hi! Can HTH phenol red be switched out for Taylor R-0014? If yes, which of my 2 comparators shown in attached photo should I then use? (I've already switched to using Taylor DPD/FAS as per TFP, but no Taylor K2006 kit because I still had good reagents to use up this year. However, now I see...

Questions about regent brands and my Frankenstein test kit.

This is our 1st season for TFP, so still in the process of switching testing materials/reagents & while a learning curve, it's great! And POOLMATH makes it easy! Taylor reagents are slowly replacing the HTH reagents/supplies in my new TFP case that I find very handy! I still use my HTH...

Combo of LC and lithium hypo to shock? Or not?!

Yes, both add chlorine. I just wondered if a comb of both to shock could be done as I don't have enough 8.2% LC on hand... I won't risk it until someone says yes or no. Tks!

Combo of LC and lithium hypo to shock? Or not?!

Can one use a combo of LC & Lithium Hypo to shock a pool if one has both, but not enough of one to get to needed shock level? My thought was to use PoolMath calculator at the bottom of PoolMath page for each form of chlorine to get to the shock level needed..if even possible. Tks!

WHOA! Can a shock for algae only lose 1 ppm overnite? Was it algae?

FC held at 7.5 overnite so I'm thrilled! On a side note, since opening 6 wks ago, CYA was always under 30, but rose (very slowly) via 2 tri-chor pucks in floater, replaced as needed. CYA hit 40 last week & pucks were removed. To me, 40 allowed option of using pucks in auto-feeder when we go...

WHOA! Can a shock for algae only lose 1 ppm overnite? Was it algae?

Tks Divin Dave. Not a new pool owner (pool is 30 yrs old) but new to TFP this year! I've been maintaining FC by testing daily & using PoolMath. Water was not allowed to go under minimum FC, which was 3 until CYA finally went to 40 the other day. But lately I've been trying to keep pool around...

    Pool Math goal settings

Same issue - PoolMath suddenly not saving target goals or pool (WxLxD) info. Up until today, it always saved these in the past.
