    I use pool store testing

Welcome to TFP Biscuits & Gravy. Would you like to elaborate please on what you refer to that is "dangerous?" This is indeed a forum for helping people solve problems. The chemistry advise from "experts" in this forum are based soundly on science.

    Water Testing, Non recommended kit

Pool School - Test Kits Compared One of the Lamotte test kits is reviewed but not that one. I think the shortfall in the one you posted is that it will only test up to 10ppm FC

    Sharing what matters

Welcome to TFP :) We tend to prefer adding things to the pool based on accurate testing and only adding what is needed. I'm glad your method works for you but thousands upon thousands of users come here with water problems due to using the pucks which drive up your cyruranic acid levels...

Have automatic chlorine generator on high, but FC is almost always zero

Szmad Have you considered a SWG for less maintenance? Once a good (diligent) owner has dialed in theirs with their pool for runtime and % output, it's a lot less ongoing maintenance as far as testing and balencing. I probably test my chlorine once a week with mine once my pool is clean and...

    Yellow Out

Re: Another Algae Bloom We do not advocate adding things to your pool without understanding what chemical is and how it will react with pool water.

    Yellow Out

Re: Have automatic chlorine generator on high, but FC is almost always zero We would never reccomend adding something blindly without understanding the chemical compound and the effects of said chemical compound on pool water.

Have automatic chlorine generator on high, but FC is almost always zero

szmad If you have visible algae, you really should proceed to SLAM Pool School - SLAM - Shock Level And Maintain Once you have visible algae, you really can't get rid of it by maintaining normal chlorine levels and filtering because at that point it is multiplying faster than a normal chlorine...

Have automatic chlorine generator on high, but FC is almost always zero

On your first question......use pool math. It is linked at the top of the page, put in your pool volume and there is a section at the bottom where you can play with the effects of aging different chemicals. The second about CC......how are you testing this? Is it a reagent drop test? If your...

Have automatic chlorine generator on high, but FC is almost always zero

No!!! No bags of "shock" : Those also contain CYA. Please read up in pool school. I posted links above but add this one as well. Pool School - ABCs of Pool Water Chemistry

Have automatic chlorine generator on high, but FC is almost always zero

This is where we like a full set of test results including your CYA From a trusted test kit :) In your other thread I think you mentioned not having a CYA test. You'll need that along with a FAS-DPD chlorine test kit so you can follow the SLAM process to get rid of algae. Pool School - Test...

Home page and pool school organization confusing? Lacking?

Very good points from the OP here. But, I have to say when I found this site from googling a problem, I think I found the forum and never went to the home page but to pool school from the forum rather. Maybe to further research there could be a forum (subject) page added for "how did you find...

    Chas' Method

The reason this site is so popular is because the methods work. The reason the methods work is because they are based on sound science and validated in real pools. I was so happy to see you chime in on this thread chemgeek :D
