Getting Air in lines when vacuuming

Thanks. This gives me a place to look. This just started in the last few weeks (8 years after build) and the hose I had was purchased last year but I don't always store it correctly, never imagined the problem would continue with a brand new hose used first yesterday if it was the hose.

Getting Air in lines when vacuuming

I'm stumped and I don't think I should be so maybe someone can point me in the right direction. When I'm vacuuming the pool, I'm getting air in the lines as I see the bubbles start to come from the returns and it increases as i go on to the point I can see the air at the pump filter. My...

    Skimmer is too high

I need to correct myself on this. If we leave our filter set to waste and the pump off, our pool will drain almost completely. I know this because DH accidentally has done this twice. But, our filter and drain line are downhill from the pool deck and we have a main drain in the floor of the deep...

    Skimmer is too high

I can't imagine any way to lower a skimmer but maybe someone else could chime in. If you are going to stay and can monitor the level, I'd say just drain when you can. Draining preemptivly could cause problems if the ground becomes saturated before rain fills it back up as it could cause the...

    Holy Electricity Bill, Batman!

I'm pretty sure we have some of the higher rates compared to others nationally here in SC. (Edit by Jim R.) Our pool electricity costs run about $135 a month in season for a single speed motor with SWG. I'm fairly spot on with this as it is on a meter separate from our house meter. The only...

    Drain pool using backwash

You would also need to maintain CYA in a pool using SWG. I vote with the others experienced posters here there is no need to drain the water. You would be well served to do a bit of reading in pool school linked above and getting your own quality test kit. I love my TF-100 Also using liquid...

I clogged or got air in my pump

Can you tell us what type of pool and filter and pump you have? Better yet, add it to your signature Pool School - Read This BEFORE You Post That would be needed information to attemp to provide any answers. Welcome to TFP :)

Can I raise CYA with bags of shock?

When adding CYA by putting it in a sock and hanging in front of a return, back washing shouldn't matter.

    Auto Chlorinator and liquid bleach?

Hi there :) I'd pour Bleach in the pool, not the chlorinator.

    Air in lines

It is normal for an SWG to produce small bubbles that you can see coming out of a return at a very slow rate but not "blowing" from a return. Is this what you may be seeing?

Help this mama solve a mystery

HI and welcome to TFP As pooldv said, I think algae is your filter pressure problem. You said the pool was dark green that says algae is suspected. DE filters clog a lot more quickly than sand filters because they filter so well. Pressure rises when the filter gets clogged. TFP is all about...

Pool Pump Has Died-Best Way to Keep Water Clean

Wow. Sorry to hear about your pump. And welcome to TFP :) Anything you can do to keep that water moving will help. Brush? Most certainly. Do you have a boat paddle? Go sit on a noodle a paddle yourself around? In all seriousness you may not be able to prevent algae and water problems but any...

Can I raise CYA with bags of shock?

It shows both ? I see it. It says add.....by weight or.....by volume OR Add......of liquid stabilizer Those granules from Walmart are probably much cheaper than any liquid. I've only ever used the granules :)

Can I raise CYA with bags of shock?

Mikayla, have you used pool math? There is a link at the top of the web page. Plug in your pool size in gallons along with current numbers and target numbers and it will tell you how much of just about anything to add to reach a target. There is also a part at the bottom of the poolmath page...

Can I raise CYA with bags of shock?

Walmart sells CYA. It's sold as "stabilizer"......just check your ingredient......looking for 99%+Cyuranic acid. But yes.....dichlor and trichlor do contain CYA too. You can use poolmath to see how much 16 oz of dichlor would raise CYA.

    PVC Cement Not Sealing

I found this How To Glue Pool Fixtures Together - INYOPools.com I'm not the expert you need on PVC cement (although I mess with PVC all the time). It looks like you are using the right stuff. I assume you're coating both surfaces that need to be sealed together?

New Guy.....Replacing Whining Pump Motor....Source/Reference for Seals???

Do you have a local pool store besides the chain ones? We have a good local one who sold us a motor last summer for our DIY replacement like you. They were so helpful when we needed some extra parts (face plate I think it was...doesn't come with the motor and ours had melted). They sold us a...

    What's a pool pump?

You could have a bad pressure gauge. Did it go to 0 when the pump is off? A gauge is an easy inexpensive fix. There is a good one at tftestkits.net. I have bad luck with gauges so I keep a spare on hand.

    Lack of circulation issue?

If you are using pucks, you are constantly adding CYA to your pool. The amount of chlorine you need is entirely dependent upon what your CYA is. "Shocking" should not be a necessity in a properly balanced pool. Pool School - Chlorine / CYA Chart Pool School - ABCs of Pool Water Chemistry

    Sand filter sudden pressure drop

If the return lines feel like normal pressure, I'd replace gauge before chasing ghost problems like clogs. Sure, there could be an issue but I've chased them myself for a week or more just to find out my gauge was going bad. It started reading low pressure for a long time. Then one day it was...

    Filtering issue

Hi there, I'd be more inclined to think the start of algae than a filter issue, especially since pump wasn't running for three days. Why not try doing an overnight chlorine lost test before jumping the gun on filter issues?

    What is a "return jet"?

The skimmers suck the water from the pool the returns return it. Any return point......the thing water is coming out of on the side of the pool. Not really a stupid question. I know I didn't know (insert any word) about pools when my build was finished.

    does this pump sound normal?

That sounds very loud to me. I can't help diagnose why but I can say that is what mine sounded like not long before it quit (fried) and tripped the breaker. We replaced the motor after that. New build VS upgrade cost

I was referring to the difference in cost of buying the one advertised online vs what the builder is quoting to upgrade. Maybe I wasn't clear on that. I know we just replaced our motor ourselves and the DIY cost was significantly lower than quoted by a pool company.
