Something You Wish You had Done was...

I agree with paying attention to your wind direction with placement of skimmers. I have a dead corner where if I'm not brushing enough, the algae starts in that dead corner that doesn't get water movement as well.

Something You Wish You had Done was...

definitely deeper shallow end. I think ours is 3.5 feet. at least 4 would be much nicer for us. And as a previous post said......we DO NOT regret pouring lots of concrete. 10 feet out on the "L" end and several feet from the end of the "L" making a lot of patio space inside that "L."

How to choose between SWG and chlorine pool?

Yes, welcome to TFP :) I'm one of those pool owners that probably either wouldn't have a pool without my SWG or I'd be miserable. Not to say adding chlorine has to be miserable but I really appreciate having the SWG take care of chlorination.

    Swim Out Bench?

We have a swim out bench in the deep end of our pool and love it. We didn't put any ladders in the pool. Just the steps in the shallow end and the swim out in the deep end.

Inground pool main drain, fill in ?

Hi welcome to TFP :) I suspect they are offering because it is a safety issue. My pool build has two drains plumbed together so a person or child can't get stuck on a drain-- the suction would shift to the other drain. I don't know the ins and outs of possible safety covers but you might want...

    New pool - sanitizer choices!

Welcome to TFP I'm just gonna chime in and third the two opinions above. We see time and time again people coming to this forum with water issues due to using pucks as they constantly add CYA to the water which builds up to unmanageable levels requiring a large exchange of water.

    Pool depth dilemma *eyes rolling*

While my pool is larger than what you are planning, I'd say our experience from our build is that the height of the person doesn't matter so much. We have a "L" swimming pool where the shallow end is all about 3.5 ft. I don't even like being in that depth unless on my knees. I'm 5'5". I almost...

    New Pool Cost!

Probably the best way to confirm you're not getting "ripped off" is to get 3 (or more) quotes from different builders making sure the specs are the same.

So, whats everyone paying for water ???

We talked to our well driller/pump guy before the initial fill (accidentally drained twice since) and his advice was to be sure to run at least two spigots all open. He explained the cycling on and off is more likely to kill your pump than it running constantly and staying on. I think we paid...

So, whats everyone paying for water ???

Usually costs me about nothing extra to fill from my well.

What Does Your Pool Equipment Pad Look Like?

Mine looks very much like yours with a smaller poured base with a 4x4 to support breaker box and timer to the left of the base. Only difference here is that mine was put slightly inside the roofline of a pole barn. Far from house. On different meter than the house. But no worries about theft out...

    pooldv texas pool thread

Re: pooldv pool thread And this reminds me of the sudden stop I had to make from almost 40miles an hour on our road on the morning school commute with kids. There were a BUNCH of "birds" in the road and they weren't moving. I pondered out loud that those were funny looking chickens to which...

    Concrete patio

Take a look at these folks. Daich Coatings - Floor, Wall and Countertop Finishing Products I haven't used their products but am aware of others who have with great results. I'm really tempted on their countertop coatings but haven't pulled the trigger. I understand their outdoor coatings are...

Trying to Reason with Hurricane Season: The Rebuild

Wow. Sorry to see that damage. I'm just a few miles west of Sumter and are grateful we didn't have any damage except maybe trees down in the woods. So our pool has now survived a historic flood (2015) and Matthew. Best of luck on the rebuild.

    Light not secure in niche?

All sounds good. We took our lights out (I think the same kind) recently due to algae and a light bulb needing to be replaced. They were a bear to get back in. Getting that bottom part seated properly so you can properly seat the screw at 12 o'clock can be a challenge as the fixture wants to...

    Just getting started

I believe that equipment is designed for tri-chlor tablets. Here at TFP we would strongly reccomend against that method of chlorination as "eventually" you will be fighting high CYA making things more difficult to manage. Before deciding, maybe you should do some reading in the links below...

Vinyl Liner Pattern Roundup Project - Post Pic & Name Of Your Liner

I wanted to add this link because I remembered chemgeek's comment on organic dyes. I had a liner with light blue and I had some very noticeable fading on the floor and up the wall of the shallow end after only a year or two. This was the north side taking the brunt of the sun from the south...

    size, shape considerations

I'm going to piggy back on bmmoreswim on the placement it becomes soooo much about preference. Our larger concrete decking (inside the "L" if you will) is closest to the home or "walking too" point with the entry steps being closest to the house. What HAS bugged me over the...

What would you do differently, if you could rebuild your pool?

Our pool is approximately 3ft deep in the shallow end and I think I'd like it a bit deeper. We went with a true "L" and enjoy the added space in the shallow end. Agreed on length. It $$ weren't an issue we'd enjoy longer for laps. Getting a pool when children were 5 and 7 ended up producing...

    Salt water/chlorine vs just chlorine

It's kind of funny PH dropped significantly not long after the build in 7/2011. We new our eyes were burning and even the kids skin a bit. I only had test strips as my builder did initial water treatment upon opening. I was clueless. That's when I found this site. Ran to the store...

    Salt water/chlorine vs just chlorine

I want to comment on the stated fact that SWG's need MA weekly. I rarely need to bring PH down. When I was much newer here I even asked that question as I was reading and taking everything in. My pool has that sweet spot keeping TA at about 60-70 my PH is almost always 7.5 when I check it. It's...
