Converting from Natural Gas to Electric

A typical gas heater (400K BTU) will heat a regular size spa about 1 degree/minute. Assuming you are bringing the water up from 70 to 100 degrees it will take about 30 minutes with a gas heater. The Raypack (27KW 92K BTU) will take over 4 times as long almost 2 hours. So after 2 uses you...

Concrete Sealant for Rough Pool Deck

Kool Deck coating would smooth that out. However, the prep and application should be done by a pro for it to last.

    Umbrella Sleeves - Any downside?

I find the sleeves are to shallow and any wind will pick up those big umbrellas and blow them across the deck or pool which is a safety issue. And yes wind will do damage to plaster or gunite if the umbrella is left in for an extended period. Look for an umbrella with the vents on top which...

    Solar panels worth it?

I have 2 pools in Arizona one with solar, one without solar. Today the non-solar pool is about 75 degrees vs, the solar pool 88 degrees. For me its definitely worth it because it extends my swimming season from April thru Oct. I don't use a solar cover and even if there is some heat loss...

    Spa Size

I would say the average spa is 7 or 8 feet. Be aware that a 10 ft spa will take a long time to heat up and the gas will be expensive.

Late to the Party, New Build in Progress in NC

A 2 HP blower for only 6 jets might blow you out of the water. Why didn't they just use a Venturi air intake and make it adjustable?

    Spillover height

I designed the raised spa coping to be 18" above the patio deck for outdoor seating comfort. The spillover drop from the spa water level to the pool ended up being 18" which works fine.

Add Heater after Pool is Built - Possible - Cost - Gas Line

Why don't you consider solar especially since you are in Texas? A pool heater is very expensive to run while solar is free after the initial cost.

    Spa with blower question

In spa mode the suction is from the spa and the return is to the spa jets. The blower can be on or off depending on your preference. There will be no spillover.

    Solar heating system not heating

I don't under want you meant by 17m3 pool? What is the surface sq. ft. and average depth? 107 sq. ft. for a solar array may be too small ideally it should be about the same sq. ft. as your pool. It does sound like your pump speed is too high for such a small array. The difference between...

New large pool -- heat questions

To put this in perspective a 60K gal pool has 500,400 lbs of water (1 gallon of water weighs 8.34 lbs). It takes 1 btu to raise a lb of water 1 degree/hour. Thus you would need under ideal circumstances 500,400 BTUs to raise your pool by one degree in an hour. Large gas pool heaters are...

New large pool -- heat questions

Are planning an integrated spa? If so you probably need a 400k Btu heater to heat the spa up quickly. Heat pumps are very slow.

Solar Heat - Whats the Best GPH to Run?

Generally you want about 4 degrees difference inlet to outlet for max efficiency. Just get an infrared thermometer and aim it at the pipes. Adjust the pump speed accordingly no need to worry about complicated gpm calculations and panel sizes.

    Spa PSI higher than pool

Does the pump increase RPMs when you set it in spa mode? That's normal for automation and would expect to see an increase of 10psi for the jets. At higher RPMs you might also expect some air bubbles due to pump cavitation.

The Construction has begin... Roseville, Ca.

I would caution against a steep slope. A person could be walking in the shallow end and suddenly caught off guard plunging into water over their head. Also heading from the deep to shallow end you are liable to stub your toe or foot into the steep wall. Ask me how I know.
  26. T

    Solar, and SWG

Another thing you can try is get an infrared thermometer and check temperatures of the input and output pipes to panels. It should be about 4 degrees difference for optimal efficiency. Then dial in your rpm from there and you won't have to guess GPH.

    White flake issue

I took out my SWG due to high CH 350 fill water and Arizona evaporation caused it to go to 1500+ very quickly . Flakes on SWG plates, in the pool and on the filters there is no way to balance that just drain and refill every year. Now just adding liquid chlorine twice a week.
