    Hayward VS950 Omni Pump - o-ring

Update - yes @rcerf you are correct you only need one o-ring. Here's a real newb question - should there be any air in the pump? It primes itself at startup and usually fills up to about the top of the pump basket with water, maybe a little more, but it's not filled 100% with water in the...

    Techo-bloc Aberdeen Patio

I used Aberdeen rock garden brown and did their Piedmonte coping in same color. We like how the RGB color is more of a gray than a brown so you have to be aware of that when deciding. We did not put any seal on ours, just completed install about a month ago.

Thanks for the reassurance. Didn’t want to make the news today with a blown up house!

    New Heater Smell

New pool, wanted to test out heater for first time tonight and noticed a smell. It wasn’t gas. I recently replaced my house furnace and the hvac guy warned me there would be a smell for a day or two for “burn in”. I figure that’s all this is however nobody warned me about this for the pool...

    Hayward VS950 Omni Pump - o-ring

uh oh - if that's the case then it sounds like I have a leak. The confusing part in the manual is that diagram shows an o-ring sitting on top of the basket (part #2). I have one on order and will get it here to see if it fits on or not. The strange part about these bubbles is I've been...

New fiberglass pool - TFP vs. manufacturer levels

glad to stumble on this thread. I was just dialing in my pool chemistry as well and noticed my manufacturer warranty packet and the difference between their recommendations vs TFP. This will be the first season so I'll shoot for the manufacturer recommendations and be happy when the numbers...

New user first opening of pool

Nope didn’t drain the pool. It’s my first time doing these tests so maybe some user error. Thanks for the feedback, I’ll go at this gradually so I don’t overshoot.

New user first opening of pool

Ok here are my latest results from today: FC - 9.0 CC - 0.5 pH - 7.2 TA - 70 (this seems to be fluctuating slightly from test to test. Could be user error) CH - 200 (this was holding steady at 175 for a couple days and now it's 200. Could be user error again) CYA - 20 (this was 0, I brought...

    Hayward VS950 Omni Pump - o-ring

Thanks - I'm waiting on some magic lube as we speak and put the order in for the o-ring. You always hear about people that order a piece of furniture and give it 1 star review b/c they were missing pieces for assembly and it drove them nuts. I guess I drew that card on this one...happily place...

    Hayward VS950 Omni Pump - o-ring

New pool owner, I'm noticing some bubbles on one of my returns and saw another post recommending to check the pump o-ring. Is there supposed to be an o-ring on top of the strainer basket? I have one recessed in the pump lid, but looking at the pump manual it looks like I should have another...

New user first opening of pool

New end of day results: FC - 12.5 TC - 0.5 TA - 80 (must have been a bad test earlier) Temp - 53 CSI - (-0.8) I guess the FC will drift down over time. I figure no testing PH until FC drops. So what next? Drive CH up? Wait until FC drops a bit to drive up CYA? Dump the salt in and start...

New user first opening of pool

Ok here are the results from this morning. It looks like I passed the OCLT and pool looks great. So I think I’m done with the SLAM process. What’s next to get pool balanced? I have fiberglass with SWG but not ready to turn that on until temps are consistently 65. I have all the salt, is it...

New user first opening of pool

Ok pool cleared up pretty quick. I did a FC test and it was at 12 this am which was my goal yesterday. I think I’m ready for next step tomorrow. I will test again tonight for FC and TC to make sure I passed the three steps of SLAM before moving on. Meanwhile pump is going 24/7.

New user first opening of pool

First pool opening and did a water test. I plugged it all into the pool math app so I was planning on just following those directions but thought I would post here as well in case there are any other suggestions. I have a fiberglass pool about 17500 gallons including spa. FYI pool company...

    Fiberglass Benefits in the Northeast...

I think there is always spin based on who is selling what but I feel like I remember reading somewhere that fiberglass is really popular in Canada. I know I've seen countless builds on the brand I chose in Canada. I did a fiberglass build over the winter that is almost finished, so about the...

    narrow pool

Here’s a pic of my 15x40 pool during install. Build still isn’t complete so I don’t have a finished pic to send but thought this might help you visualize. Our pool is about 15 feet from the house, we had a setback rule that required us to stay skinny on the pool.

Safety Covers - Merlin vs Looploc vs GLI

I'm shopping for my first pool cover and can't seem to figure out if there is really any difference in quality or materials between Merlin, Looploc or GLI. Most of the installers I've spoken to swear that they are all the same material. I feel I am leaning towards the thicker mesh option...

    South Jersey Fiberglass Install

My lord this seems like the longest fiberglass install in the history of the world. Pool company finished up their part early Jan and then I moved on to hardscaping company to try to put my backyard back together. If anyone is thinking of doing fiberglass in the NJ tri-state area feel free to...

    South Jersey Fiberglass Install

I updated the first post on this thread to include a timeline. Just had the PB out for three days of work, they were making sure pool was level, swapped my pump to VS950, tweaked my equipment pad to my liking, finished the backfill and did a rough grade on rest of backyard. Side note -...

    Backyard heaters

This is exactly what I was looking for thank you! I'll be about same height with 3 sides open. I've seen your build, that fireplace and backyard set-up is incredible, nice work! Hoping it won't take away too much from ceiling, I'm 6'4" as it is so i'm sensitive to that height clearance!

    Backyard heaters

Thanks for your reply. Yes looking like if I was to do it it would probably be infrared. My ceiling height would be 9-8', it's on a slant. Just wondering if I'll get a fair share of use in 35-40 degree weather for some nighttime football games.

    Backyard heaters

Looking for feedback on backyard heaters. I'm adding a covered pavilion (20x14) to backyard with TV / Bar and wondering how practical these are. Would love to get as much use out of the pavilion. Are they useless once temps are below 40? I think I would have to go electric if I wanted...

    outdoor grill placement

I've been thinking about a kamado for over a year, if I do it I'd probably go the red version. You love your egg? We are in middle of build and doing a Cabana style setup too and I'm leaning towards not having the grill in the covered area and not doing a built in just yet. I wanna see how...
