    Alkalinity and pH issues

So I am following your advice and working on getting the pH down ... it does seem to be dropping, it's holding under 8 (from 7.6-7.8) but does still want to creep up. Is the 7.6-7.8 range good enough, or should I try to get it to be stable at 7.6?

    Alkalinity and pH issues

I don't have a circ pump so the spa uses one set of jets to circulate the water. The aerators on that are always off when I get out. The manual actually suggested leaving the aerator on the other set on. This set is run automatically, periodically, to keep the pumps primed or something. I...

    Alkalinity and pH issues

For some reason I stopped getting notifications of replies so I missed this. Yes, this makes total sense. Thanks for the explanation! I have been frustrated trying to lower my pH because it has been so stubbornly high. Do I just need to keep banging away at it - will it eventually come down...

    Alkalinity and pH issues

Argh. So many different recommendations. The how to at the top of the spa forum suggests a TA of 50. The folks at SmarterSpa suggest 100. Now you are saying it doesn't matter. How is a person supposed to know what to do?

    Alkalinity and pH issues

My tap water has a TA of 30-40. It would make sense to me that as the H2O evaporate is would leave the solids behind and then as I add more tap water the TA would rise. Yes or no? Re just managing pH, I've struggled w/this as it has been stubbornly high (8 and higher) and I didn't want to add...

    Alkalinity and pH issues

Just tried again but didn't realize about the not squeezing .... did wipe the tip each time and the drops looked bigger than before. Got a reading of a solid 90. I feel like my numbers are pretty good now - added 2 tbsp of pH decreaser yesterday (1 at a time, giving it multiple hours to...

    Alkalinity and pH issues

Re/the test, I confess I haven't followed the direction of wiping the dropper. I will try the test again doing this. And no, I haven't added any stabilizer.

    Alkalinity and pH issues

I do add water, about once a month ... the tub seems to loose about an inch a month. I hadn't thought of that but that would change the chemistry over time wouldn't it? I have tried adding a little bit of pH down but not much ... it didn't seem to have a lasting effect, and since I thought the...

    Alkalinity and pH issues

Back at the beginning of November 2019 I filled my spa and tested the TA at 40 so I didn't mess w/it. I brought the hardness up to 175 and I have an SWG for chlorine generation so I didn't do anything for FC. I have had ongoing issues w/high pH - started at 8 and has been creeping up to where...

    Can't get pH under 8 ... what's going on? do I care?

Cool, glad to hear it, based on my experiments so far it just doesn't seem possible to get it to stay under 8. But at this TA it holds 8 very consistently so I am going to call it good!

    Filter cleaning and replacement routine

That all makes sense, and as you, it depends on a lot of factors. My bather load is relatively light, mostly just me, 15-20 minutes/day. I suppose a lot of it is user preference ... since the discolored filters are bothering me and since I got a years worth of use out of 'em I should just...

    Filter cleaning and replacement routine

Ah, got it. Yes, my tub has three ports at the bottom that don't go thru any filters. I have wondered how the filtering can be effective given this.

    Filter cleaning and replacement routine

So are you still rinsing the new filter monthly? Have you used any kind of cleaning routine other than that? Fundamentally my questions come down to this: 1) How often should I replace my filters? 2) How often should I rinse my filters while they are in use? 3) Do I need to bother with...

Just curious, what do you mean 100% filtration? FYI my tub has 2 filters.

    Filter cleaning and replacement routine

TLDR How often do you replace your filters, and what if any cleaning routine do you follow? Details: I've had my tub for a year now. First fill I didn't clean w/Ahh-some first and the water was always a bit gnarly. I sprayed out the filters weekly, had two sets, and swapped them monthly w/the...

First Iowa Winter with hot tub - what do I need to know?

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XG66PRF/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Bought 4 a year ago. Price is great and they are holding up well so far. Only use them for the tub. I got 2 blue and 2 white ... despite bleach when I was them the white are starting to get a bit of...

First Iowa Winter with hot tub - what do I need to know?

I have wondered about something like that ... I looked into towel warmers but there really isn't anything like that that is rated for outdoor use. Post back here in Feb about how that is working for you! :-)

First Iowa Winter with hot tub - what do I need to know?

I live in the Front Range in Colorado and winter is my favorite time to use my hot tub! This distance from door to hot tub is around the same as yours. I have clogs for everyone to wear, and heavy plush bath robes. Have the hardiest person go out first and get the cover off so all everyone...

Slight staining at the water line - how do I clean this off?

It's def. not dried Ahh-some .... I was rigorous about cleaning that out. May have been there before, to be honest I didn't really notice.

    Can't get pH under 8 ... what's going on? do I care?

Per title. My tap water is at a TA of around 30-40. My last fill of the hot tub I raised it to 80. pH was consistently in the 8-8.2 range. I could temporarily lower it w/pH decreaser but it would always go back up. I just refilled the tub and am hoping I can get it right. TA measured 40...

Slight staining at the water line - how do I clean this off?

This past weekend I emptied and refilled my hot tub for the second time. Both times I emptied it I used ah-some to clean it out before dumping it. After dumping the water I hosed the shell off, then wiped it down w/a mild bleach solution. Then I refilled and rebalanced. Just noticed slight...

Can't get pH to stay in the 7s

Since my TA is already 60, do I need to worry about bringing it down even lower? I actually bought a calibrating solution off Amazon as I don't totally trust the meter, but actually it has been pretty reliable on follow-up calibration tests.

Can't get pH to stay in the 7s

I am using the TF Testkits gear ... the Taylor drop tests and also the pH meter sold at TF. I've read all the articles, multiple times. :-D Here are my numbers: FC - 2.5 CC - 0.5 pH - 8.2 TA - 60 CH - 150 CYA - don't know, don't measure it TA and CH have been rock solid since I filled the...

Can't get pH to stay in the 7s

Per subject, the pH of my tub very stubbornly wants to be at 8.2. I've added pH decreaser multiple times and it will drop down to the mid 7's but creeps back up to 8.2 w/in a few days. The water feels and looks great so I'm wondering if I can just leave it where it is; if not, any idea how to...
