About to sign a contract (North Houston area)

I would ask builder to see some examples of pools lighted with microbrites... perhaps add another. Also be sure that they don't face the seating areas... I have a feeling since they are only 1 1/2 inches across that they will be pretty glaring. I have three in my pool which is currently in the...

    Buried Pool renovation

Interesting stuff to watch. Looks like the bond beam was demo'd in some of these last few pics... I would't be surprise to see some large holes in the bottom. But good luck to you!

Pentair IntelliBrite vs GloBrite vs MicroBrite

How difficult is it to swap out the 1 1/2 lights yourself? I have serviced my old pool's halogen light bulb many times and it was fairly simple. I have never pulled a new fixture in but even that sounds/looks pretty simple as long as conduit run is in good shape. But are the 1 1/2 inch...

microbrites to light pool in north texas?

Anyone have microbrites in their pool in the north texas area? I have three in my main pool shell now (620sqft) and was wondering if it is going to be enough (gunite is shot already so adding more cost more money and worse yet time). Best way to know is to see another pool in real life...

    Pool deck replace or refinish

I would get some more quotes... option 1 sounds a bit high and 2 even more so... maybe not though. New concrete goes around 10-13 a sqft and cool deck likely a few more above that. Travertine price looks reasonable or about what I would expect. But only way to know is more quotes for your...

Pentair IntelliBrite vs GloBrite vs MicroBrite

Found another... How Many Swimming Pool Lights Do I Need For My Pool Size? There is a table there that actually lists lumens but not for microbrite. My family has veto'd any more changes so I will have just three... I think I should have had at least 5. Wish my designer would have caught...

Pentair IntelliBrite vs GloBrite vs MicroBrite

Found this great guide from Jandy... they actually have recommendations based on spacing and plaster color. Wish I would have seen it before getting three only in our pool. https://www.jandy.com/-/media/zodiac/global/downloads/sl/sl4572.pdf

Pentair IntelliBrite vs GloBrite vs MicroBrite

I would go with the intellibrites ... if I could choose again but this is just opinion, not based on seeing both in action. The microbrites are really for accent lighting and or lighting areas which are tough to fit standard size light. They don't seem to be widely used to light the entirety...

    LED Lightning review

I tend to agree but unfortunately I have three microbrites installed already and no easy way to install the intellibrite. If I could redo this I would have done the intellibrite for at least the deep end... We will see. Do you have both in your pool?

    LED Lightning review

As of now my designer has assured me that 3 will be enough... says that they sometimes only do two and that they are as bright or brighter than the intellibrite. Hard to believe that but we will have to see. I am in the I have to trust him phase as any change now will slow us down and cost...

    LED Lightning review

I may have messed up in my build... just had electrical done and we went with 3 microbrites for a pool that is 36x18... really thinking I should have went with the intellibrite... just hoping they will be bright enough. Maybe I could have them convert a return jet to another light.... I do...

New Build in DFW - water question

They will pump it out before spraying gunite... shouldn't be an issue.

    Pentair IntelliCenter Review and Information

How hard it is to do that? My builder has my intellicenter ordered with the i5PS only and I don't think I can get them to switch to the 8 as install is happening very soon. Just want to be sure that with the same load center and everything it won't be hard to add the i8PS with three additional...

New pool build in Allen TX

kimkats - Thanks for all the suggestions. Do you have any pics of 6 inch and 1 inch strips mixed in the waterline? I have been looking and hadn't seen any yet. I will be going grey grout - definitely not white and will make sure to use plaster for the bench/ledge trim tile. I have the...

New pool build in Allen TX

Went to a different tile. We are doing the solid blue as the main pool waterline and the 1 inch as the spa and the trim tile for ledge/benches.

New pool build in Allen TX

Steel in in... plus a little water. Close-up of the top of a helical steel pier. We went with piers on the recommendation of the builder and the fact that our house had foundations issues. And there is a 5 foot retaining wall on the other side of the fence. After digging we hit much more...

New pool build in Allen TX

And away we go... can't believe we are actually doing this right now but we signed our contract the last week of January so here we are. Elevation and location is set and 11 steel piers are set. Was supposed to get gravel base as well but will see what the engineer says about the soil. We had...

New pool build in Allen TX

Here is the tile we are thinking about with blue surf pebble sheen. The decking is going to be a stamped concrete colored as shown below but a slightly different pattern. Also going with Oklahoma Flagstone coping and retaining walls.

What about these stones options for retaining walls and back raised wall? My wife really wants the first option and I kind of like the second since it will contrast a bit more with the oklahoma flagstone coping.

Pool building in the age of COVID-19

Two of my thoughts if things get really bad: 1- pricing of pools should drop almost lock step with real estate. Labor will free up here in Texas since the oil industry will be laying off thousands and demand of material will drop. 2 - The other worse scenario is that my pool builder runs...

Pool building in the age of COVID-19

Anyone concerned about starting a build right now? Wonder how many pool companies have the cash flow/reserves to make it through this. If things keep crashing prices are bound to drop quite a bit. Or not... who knows. Just worried as my dig and first huge payment will be in the next few...

New pool build in Allen TX

New fence is in... decided to do this first since we were moving it to the property line and wanted it to be moved for the final grading that the pool company did. Also needed to move it to make room for the new patio cover. Left a small section by driveway for equipment access.

New pool build in Allen TX

Moved pool 2 feet to left to open up patio by spa and between house and pool. Has been submitted to city for permits and hopefully will be digging in a few weeks.

New pool build in Allen TX

Thanks will definitely check for the location of the line. I am leaning towards having it by the fence to left of spa patio rather than being close to patio.

Love the colors of deck and coping. Is that silver travertine coping with cooldek/sundek? What color is the deck?

New pool build in Allen TX

What is everyone's thoughts about equipment location? The current location shown here is about 30-36 inches above pool water level. It is also further away from pool. I would like to put it by gate near or to west of spa by fence but the electric line is about 2-3 feet from the fence there so...
