SIlt (?) Collecting on Pool Bottom Every Morning

On that 3rd pic it looks like most of the dirt is below an expansion joint. Perhap you have ants digging in there and dumping the sand/dirt into the pool?

SIlt (?) Collecting on Pool Bottom Every Morning

Could it be from critters visiting your pool? We have that issue around here (suspect raccoons).

Adding CYA vi sock method - SWG Generator off for how long?

I originally was told by our pool builder that you don’t want concentrated calcium going through the salt cell when it’s running, so turn it off when adding calcium. I also thought I read this in this forum or on Poolforum (it’s been a long time, so my memory isn’t clear). Fast forward to now...

    Liquid chlorine shortage

I did the opening SLAM with cal-hypo this year. Fortunately, the starting CH was low enough to use this option.

Adding CYA vi sock method - SWG Generator off for how long?

I thought the SWCG should be off when adding calcium as well?

Is SLAM inevitable? (YES...it was...Day 3 still need help)

Going forward, do not use the Minimum FC level as your target. https://www.troublefreepool.com/blog/2019/01/18/chlorine-cya-chart/ Keep FC at or a little above Target level.

Filter is more sensitive after pump upgrade, needs more backwashing

As suggested before, it would be better to do a proper SLAM. https://www.troublefreepool.com/blog/2018/12/12/slam-shock-level-and-maintain/ I’m not sure why you are so reluctant to take the advice given to you by very experienced TFP members. 🤔 Good luck to you.

    Heavy rain forecasted...what to do?

There’s no harm bringing it up to SLAM level before a big rain hits. It may give you some peace of mind. 👍

Filter is more sensitive after pump upgrade, needs more backwashing

More likely your old pump running at a higher speed was pushing algae and dirt through the filter and the new pump running at a lower speed is allowing the filter to catch more.

Filter is more sensitive after pump upgrade, needs more backwashing

IMHO, by keeping FC below the recommended target you are on the knife’s edge of a full blown algae outbreak. Before I learned about the proper FC/CYA ratio, the first sign of an impending algae breakout was a jump in filter pressure, even though the water was clear and the chems were “fine”.

    How to clean concrete?

The instructions on the label for cleaning mildew say to add bleach, so I assume that would take care of sanitation? I’m particularly concerned about whether or not this stuff will harm the plants around the pool. Would I be better off exchanging it for this...

    How to clean concrete?

@JoyfulNoise So my spouse came home with this https://www.acehardware.com/departments/home-and-decor/cleaning-and-disinfectants/scouring-cleaners/12590 The ingredients on the SDS sheet look different than TSP (trisodium phosphate). Is it the same thing? If not, can I safely use it to clean...

    New from VA

Go ahead with the SLAM. Other than being annoying, normal rain will not have a noticeable impact. Now if we get 6+ inches of rain in a day, that may change things some.

I’m going to try to get in the pool this afternoon. Water temp will probably be around 72°. I bought a wetsuit last spring just for occasions like this. 😀

    Hello from southeastern Virginia

We only have the budget for Mother Nature’s heat. She‘s been slack this month, though. Up until today the pool only got up to 64°. So far today it’s up to 67°.

FC and CYA - Ready for swimming?

It’s said here that if FC is in between minimum and SLAM level according to your CYA level, then it’s safe to swim (assuming water is clear). Refer to this chart. https://www.troublefreepool.com/blog/2019/01/18/chlorine-cya-chart/ If your CYA is below 20, I would add CYA before swimming as...
