What's coming out of my return? (under water videos)

I will have to look into this! So far I have backwashed every time I vacuum and the water is crystal clear coming from the return on start up and no sediment on the pool floor. I know this is not how it's supposed to be. Is there a physical issue with the filter somewhere, or this just a thing?

How long can yellow algae live outside the pool?

Thank you! It's actually just the removable handrails so should be easier to clean.

How long can yellow algae live outside the pool?

Just finished up the 24 hour high FC hold after completing SLAM. I realized that a part of my pool steps were removed to be able to move the stairs out of the way of deep cleaning. A part of the handles were exposed to algae water and should have probably been sanitized in the pool. I can’t find...

What's coming out of my return? (under water videos)

Backwashes after vacuuming today and water was clear on pump start up. No sediment in pool a few hours later. So if the sand is new, what else could be causing dirt to be allowed back in the pool?

What's coming out of my return? (under water videos)

Yes and yes. I actually replaced the lateral thinking it was letting stuff back in the pool. The old one looked fine but I changed it out anyways. New one was obviously fine as well.

What's coming out of my return? (under water videos)

Yup, it was sand that I seed suggested on this site several times. And yes I passed all 3 tests. Like I said, these little spots of sediment have been showing up since the beginning. I manually vacuum every day and it ends up right back on the pool floor

What's coming out of my return? (under water videos)

The sand is brand new, as of 1.5 months ago if that. I've had this stuff in the bottom of my pool since I got the pool last year. I'm seeing just shy of 20 psi, and after a backwash it might go down a few ticks. Weirdly enough, when the pump is off, I still show some pressure on the gauge. When...

What's coming out of my return? (under water videos)

After manually vacuuming, I turn off the pump to unseat the skimmer box lid. Then I kick the pump on, and this is what I see. If I backwash after I vacuuming, then I don't see this. I do find what I believe is sediment on the pool floor shortly after the pump kicks on. Links for videos showing...

SLAM question and general algae question

It's the FAS-DPD kit. I bought it at intheswim and it showed up as the Taylor K-2006 on the site but when it got delivered it has Leslies on it but still days FAS-DPD. I bought it before I knew this website was created or else I would have bought the TF-100!

SLAM question and general algae question

I don't want to run it less, I just don't want to burn the motor out. Maybe they are built to run 24/7, I just would want to give it a break I guess. I haven't stopped it yet, going on 36 hours. I am using a test kit similar to the one sold here. It has Leslies Pool on the front but all the...

SLAM question and general algae question

So algae can start even when the FC as it should be? I'm guessing the answer is no, unless you fail to clean dark places like under a pool floor mat.

SLAM question and general algae question

Noticed some "junk" in the bottom of the pool the other day before I left for a 24 hour trip. FC level was normal, no CC. Topped off the FC to 6 (CYA is 30). When I came back the junk had become more widespread. Also noticed a yellow hue on the bottom of the pool. Nothing on the walls. FC was...

(Update) Sand (dirt?) in pool, any other cause besides busted lateral/lateral assembly?

Today was the first time I backwashed after changing the lateral and sand. Followed up with a 30ish second rinse. I only did the backwash and rinse just to see if it would prevent sediment from coming back in the pool which it did not.

(Update) Sand (dirt?) in pool, any other cause besides busted lateral/lateral assembly?

It’s fresh sand from when I put in the new lateral umbrella assembly. I also noticed a bit ago upon inspecting the socks, I saw little blades of grass and little shards from the sand imbedded in the inside fabric of the sock. Meaning it only could have come from the return jet.

(Update) Sand (dirt?) in pool, any other cause besides busted lateral/lateral assembly?

I could possibly buy into this idea, and maybe that is part of it. However, I could have the pump running for a few hours, manually vacuum, keep the pump running, and within a few hours the sediment is back on the pool floor. This makes me think the sediment is being reintroduced into the pool...

(Update) Sand (dirt?) in pool, any other cause besides busted lateral/lateral assembly?

Would the pump running all of a sudden cause all the surface dust/dirt to fall to the bottom of the pool? Is your theory that when the dust/dirt gathered together it became heavy enough to sink? This would make sense in that over the course of 12 hours, dust was on the surface of the water. It...

(Update) Sand (dirt?) in pool, any other cause besides busted lateral/lateral assembly?

This morning I backwashed the filter, rinsed and put it back on filter. Took the sock off and within one hour, there was more sediment on the pool floor. Nothing prior to this. So again, what could be the issue?

(Update) Sand (dirt?) in pool, any other cause besides busted lateral/lateral assembly?

Negative, can't collect it in my hand as there is not enough in one spot. It's not like a huge mound of dirt/sand in pile. Pictures won't be clear enough to matter. Thanks.

(Update) Sand (dirt?) in pool, any other cause besides busted lateral/lateral assembly?

I decided to do the sock test again, and like I feared, no new sand or sediment in the pool. By this point without the sock, I would have had quite a bit, but the bottom is crystal clear. So, is there anything in the valve assembly that could be broke? I guess I could take the lateral assembly...

(Update!) Bubbles in pump basin and return when and only when vacuuming.

So I did the hose method. Two things were observed and heard. One, definitely a huge reduction in bubbles. I could control the amount of bubbles simply by putting the hose over the lid and then moving it away. The sound also changed when moving the hose back and forth. I didn't really see...

(Update) Sand (dirt?) in pool, any other cause besides busted lateral/lateral assembly?

I used hth pool filter sand as suggested in numerous posts on this site. I just feel like if it is an issue with the filter, there is a seal or gasket going bad. I know there are only a few in the entire system. I went out and vacuumed my pool and when I did so, I slipped in as to not disturb...

(Update) Sand (dirt?) in pool, any other cause besides busted lateral/lateral assembly?

I can get my fingers on it and feel it. Yesterday the CYA was probably 30 where I try and keep it. FC was 4 so I bumped it to 6 like I do every night. Average about a 2 FC loss over 24 hours. My pH runs a little high closer to 7.8-8. I’m on well water so our alkalinity is always high. Never had...

(Update) Sand (dirt?) in pool, any other cause besides busted lateral/lateral assembly?

Saw what I am pretty sure was sand in pool. Put sock over return, no more sand or sediment so I replaced lateral assembly. Did not see anything wrong with old assembly, but replaced anyways. Less suspected sand but still a good amount around with the run time of about 6 hours. I figured this...

(Update!) Bubbles in pump basin and return when and only when vacuuming.

I took the gasket out, didn't see anything obvious and lubed it up and reinstalled it. Right after I vacuumed and no bubbles. The next day, went to vacuum again and the bubbles have returned. Does this strongly suggest it is the gasket?

(Update!) Bubbles in pump basin and return when and only when vacuuming.

As the title reads, only have bubbles out of run and in the pump basket/basin when vacuuming. I've always had the bubbles in the pump basin, and assumed it's normal. But recently I started noticing bubbles from the return. It takes several minutes of manually vacuuming before they start. To...

Sand filter and sand in pool (was this the issue?)

I had my above ground pool installed last year. It came with a Hayward S180T sand filter. Since I got it, I’ve always noticed an amount of what I thought was sediment on the pool floor. Always coming back within 20-40 minutes after manually vacuuming. I convinced myself it was environmental. It...

    Is this hose curve ok?

The custom cut length hose was 33” but it leaked. Ordered a 3’ hose and this is the result. I want to do PVC at some point but the two ports don’t quite line up so it’s a future project. My pressure gauge reads exactly the same, but will this work until I change out lines way down the roar?

    Clamp for AGP vacuum head

I'm gonna add this to the OP, but I would like to start leaving the vacuum hooked up in the pool, so right normally 30ish minutes. However, I am looking for something that can remain in the pool. Any ideas?
