Access to gas orifices on Hayward H200FDP

On my h250fdn, there are 4 9/64 hex screws on top of the gas valve holding it together. They are not easy to reach, but the majority of the valve will come off with the manifold if you can get at them. I'm having a lot of trouble with mine this year. Lots of parts are getting replaced.

Best Places to Buy Liquid Chlorine

Great find, Menards shoppers! That's even better than the BOGO offer they have in April.

Thought I was going to get away with it....

New to me this year was a baby rabbit. Caught him swimming one day and fished him out. (Didn't know they could swim!) He must've had fun. Next day, I opened the cover and there he was again - but it was too late... I still haven't told the wife or kids...

Best Places to Buy Liquid Chlorine

Yes, 13917 would roughly be mid-May. Love Rural King. Best (everyday) price anywhere. In our store, they sometimes have it in two separate locations. The date code is also stamped on the outside of the box, so just look for the highest-numbered boxes!

    Newbie help

You're in the right place, Mark. Ditto on the test kit. Once you get it, run through the list of tests and post your new (more reliable) numbers. In the meantime, take a tour through the "Pool School." Pay special attention to the SLAM process, because this will be your first big task.

Adults, After the Newness Wears Off, How do you use your Pool?

When the kids are away, aside from the typical floating and drink-sipping, I like to shoot baskets. If you search amazon for "Dunnrite basketball," you'll see what I have. It's portable, which is nice. The goal and ball are smaller than regulation basketball, but I still like it. My pool...

New to the Forum and I love it! Ran my first test...

Just to be clear... Where in the pool? Hopefully near a spot with lots of water movement - typically this would be in the skimmer. Welcome, fellow Hoosier!

New home. New in ground pool. Many questions.

Can you get away with it? Sure. For some perspective, I put a gallon in every 2-3 days when no one is even using the pool (but, every pool is different) The real question is - how effective will it be? Can't say without knowing more information. Check out the "PoolMath" tool at the top of...

New home. New in ground pool. Many questions.

A pool that size might need a couple of jugs right away. Go ahead and buy them. You will need them soon enough. Know your levels first, though, before you add them... Ditto on the test kit. The pool store might be helpful to get you started (while you wait for the kit to arrive) but don't...

    2017 Bleach Prices

Not me, and I don't think many here would. You have a few things to consider with that method - the first being (personally) that I don't think I use that much in two years. Shelf life and the loss of chlorine effectiveness is one consideration, not to mention if you store that drum outside in...

    Pros/cons of TFP method

Just piling on here, but the satisfaction of 'knowing your pool' and its chemistry is the main attraction. At this point, I only run the full battery of tests weekly and I know how much liquid chlorine it takes to get through a week. Side note - I happened to go into a Leslie's store at lunch...

    2017 Bleach Prices

I wouldn't call it catering... They have one aisle of pool supplies and just happen to have a killer price on chlorine. Actually, I've never bought anything else there... The only other appeal - my kids enjoy seeing the rabbits and baby chicks, and they have free popcorn! Menards is a...

    2017 Bleach Prices

Keep an eye on those Menards purchases. They usually run a 'buy one get one free' offer around this time of year. Until then (in the midwest), Rural King sells "Pool Shock" at $2 per gallon (actually $7.99 for a 4-pack) every day. Just picked some up yesterday, and it's fresh (March-ish...

Thank you to razor and goober! Good call on Rural King. We have a new store a mile away but I've never been in it. I guess I'm a customer now! I've been buying Clorox at Costco trying to bide my time until the Menards BOGO sale arrives.

    Special Considerations for Covered Pools?

Just realized I forgot to answer your question. We have an auto-chlorinator which uses pucks, and we left it empty for too long, plus we weren't testing like we should have, and our CYA turned out to be practically zero. Not quite sure why we have no CYA when chlorinating with pucks, but...

    Special Considerations for Covered Pools?

We've been having trouble getting rid of CC during our current slam process. After digging around a bit more on this forum, I've learned that we should leave the pool uncovered in the open sun to help get rid of it. 8-) We have an automatic cover (it's blue, if color matters), and we keep...

Finally, some clarity! But, what's next?

I've retested the CYA and here's more details on that. (My wife watched and confirmed what I was doing). This is from a Taylor test kit. 7 mL of the pool water is mixed with 7mL of the re-agent. Then, there's this tube with a black dot at the bottom. The solution is supposed to be cloudy...

Finally, some clarity! But, what's next?

Answers to questions below: We've been using the yellow Chlorine test until yesterday. This new kit - it's branded by the store, but inside it's a Taylor kit. This Taylor kit is a red test for Chlorine and has me add two agents to test the FC, and then a third to test for TC, then calculating...

Finally, some clarity! But, what's next?

We have had our pool for about a year with no issues, until last week. About 4 days ago, our water was cloudy. With the help of this site, we finally have clear water again! The problem: (Sounds stupid now, but...) our builder never mentioned the fact that we have to re-add DE after...
