    Goo-B-Gone on Vinyl Liner?

I ended up not. The bottle says not to use it on that material. Every once in a while, when I'm in a productive mood in the pool I tackle one whole section. It comes off by rubbing with your finger, especially after a few months soaking in the sun.

Taylor Test Kit vs. Pool Store Results (VERY DIFFERENT)

LOL. The only thing I bought from them was a snake oil charm that I am supposed to hang over the skimmer basket. If I bring it in every week he'll recharge it for $30 with his magic and my pool should be ok even if I follow TFP advice. jk I did buy some liquid chlorine because they have 12.5%...

Taylor Test Kit vs. Pool Store Results (VERY DIFFERENT)

Ok.. So first thoughts... How are these so different? TA, FC, CYA and CH are the biggest differences. He also told me that 6FC is too high. I have been shooting for 8FC. Am I going to end up bleaching my liner? Or will my CYA protect it? He even said that even with high CYA, the sun will...

Dead frog in the pool all day

Dead frog in the pool all day

Whenever I test the water and discover a very low FC I go on a hunt for the culprit. Today I found a dead frog in the pool that must have been there for a good 20hrs. What kind of FC drops should we expect in situations like that? Is a dead frog a reasonable excuse for dropping from 8 to 6.5FC...

    Smell chlorine, but low cc

Our FC dropped to 6.5 after all those guests (from 8) with the swg going still the whole time. Normally it keeps up. So I guess I learned my lesson. The low CC measurement may have been meaningless with all the sun we get. But the smell was probably the best indicator. How do I prevent guests...

    Smell chlorine, but low cc

So do the pee solids eventually get filtered out? Or are they too small for the filter to catch?

    Smell chlorine, but low cc

I'll add that it's not a very strong chlorine smell. Just enough for me to think, "I thought I shouldn't be smelling this"

    Smell chlorine, but low cc

I tested .2 cc, 8fc and yet I smell chlorine tonight after we had about ten people in the pool (mostly kids). I'm wondering if maybe my cya testing is off and my fc is too high? Or could I be smelling .2cc? Other days without the smell it was at 0cc same fc.

    Goo-B-Gone on Vinyl Liner?

I'll let you know. I need to purchase a bottle first (or see if my wife has some), then will try on the scrap.

Thanks. Yes, I do have scrap.

    Goo-B-Gone on Vinyl Liner?

Not sure if this question belongs here, but I figure that folks here would know best on whether this would mess with chemistry or destroy my liner... The concrete forms used around our pool had a strong, sticky adhesive (basically a sticker) that stuck to the liner. When removed, it seemed some...

Can't see difference between 7.8 and 7.6 PH

This is what I have been doing. I just got a digital meter and calibrated it to .01 accuracy. I was correct to think it was between 7.6 and 7.8, it was about 7.73 :)

Can't see difference between 7.8 and 7.6 PH

So put 4 drops and invert... then add the last drop later? Not sure how that will help, but I haven't tried it yet either. I may look into the digital meter if it's recommended.

Can't see difference between 7.8 and 7.6 PH

I'm wondering if there is a drop test I can just simply count rather than compare colors for PH. I'm having a difficult time determining where the results fall. I suppose the issue is that it's somewhere between 7.6 and 7.8. As a further test, I added one drop of acid demand and it seemed to...

New Pool, Builder doesn't want to add CYA until Spring

I followed this advice. Last night brought Chlorine up to 4ppm using 77oz liquid chlorine. Pool store was cheapest option with 1 Gallon, 12% at about $5 each including tax. Brought CYA up to 30ppm. After adding CYA, FC seemed to drop by .5... and today we had a 74F day (pool water got to 64F)...

Dissolving Large Chunk CYA Quickly [solved]

I figured out the best way! After trying several suggestions and making many mistakes, I can now rid a 4lbs of CYA in about 5-10 minutes of active work. Some things I tried but got frustrated with: Mixing in a bucket of warm water (did absolutely nothing). Sock in the skimmer (would have taken...

Yeah. I just read up on the theory. Makes sense. Thanks

New Pool, Builder doesn't want to add CYA until Spring

The SWG manual recommends 30ppm CYA. I see troublefreepool recommends 70ppm... that's a big difference!

New Pool, Builder doesn't want to add CYA until Spring

I also don't want to be the person who shows up on the forum the first few months I need help and doesn't contribute back, so sorry for the 1001 questions for now. I'll try to give back later ;) I have another question.. Is having a tablet in the skimmer enough to keep away the Algae in a pool...

New Pool, Builder doesn't want to add CYA until Spring

Thanks @mknauss. I have updated my signature. I have a vinyl liner pool. The PB owes me salt and CYA, should I just ask them to put it in now despite their recommendation? I hate to be the guy who gets a pool and pretends to know more than the builder the first month.

New Pool, Builder doesn't want to add CYA until Spring

This is week 3 of our inground pool and it's fall and 65F outside. We only got one swim and there is no concrete around the pool yet (coming in two weeks). This will be a salt pool, but the pool company doesn't want to add the Salt or the CYA until spring. They claim that the generator won't do...
