2023 Tampa New Pool Build

Nice pool! Is the bench in the deep end to meet egress requirements? I've got a similar issue on my pool design to deal with. Thinking about a ladder so I have more room for laps. Did you consider this and if so, what drove you to the bench?

Chris
If you have the room, you could have the bench bumped outside the perimeter rather than being inside it. Then you get a your interior space for swimming but still have a nice place to sit and hang out or an easy way out of the pool. I would not go with a ladder, though.

Thanks, great ideas. The building department condition required that I move the steps to the deep end. I'm going to see if they will accept a ledge or bench similar to yours. I had that in my previous pool with the same building department so fingers crossed!

Keep up the great work with your build. Can't wait to see the final product in action!

Agreed with @PCR if I had a bit more deck space I'd probably bump out a stairs/bench combo. We knew we wanted bench space as it's pretty typical for people to be hanging out or taking a break on the edges of the pool

Yep, I'd like to bump the bench out but our pool is already above budget. The zero edge around all but one side also makes construction more difficult to get right. So I think I'll do it in the deep end on one side.

Don't want this excellent OB thread to be about my pool so thanks for all the great ideas and over to @mtrtpa ...

Update: Got full equipment list as well as better drawing showing returns/piping/overflow location. @HermanTX

Questions so far:
--What filter to change to? ( Only I see with DE is filtering the smallest particle levels especially with sunscreen/lotions and potions being so prevalent here in Florida but if that's not a good enough benefit wondering which jandy cartridge model to sub in)
--Auto Fill/Overflow was included in base, originally nixed this from our other PB quotes, read too many big water bill stories  but debating keeping it and keeping tabs remotely at water meter or softener controller (yes will disable softener when filling :))
--Automation seems like PS4 = Pool + Spa when we have pool only?
--Lights - again part of "standard" package, may ask to change to white only or whatever is least prone to failure and clarify if nicheless/vs niche etc- seems like one of the common items to fail early.

Great. I see the returns, the overflow, the vac connection and the autofill line. The only thing I do not see is the skimmer location. You want to ensure that the returns are pushing some flow to the skimmer. Also, I still recommend 2 skimmers. One in deep end and other in shallow end. Although you have a screen enclosure, so the debris factor is minimal. Just a thought for your consideration.

DE filters are good as you stated. The issue is monthly backwashing and handling of DE powder. I have one and happy with it but will give strong consideration to a large cartridge filter should I need to replace it one day. If you decide to go with a cartridge filter, then select one that is over 200sqft. Jandy makes a 340 series (340 sq ft) which would work well.

Automation seems like PS4 = Pool + Spa when we have pool only?
Agree - PS is pool & spa. Also, suggest it should be at least a P6 or even a P8. This gives more flexibility as to what you can connect to the relays (4, 6 or 8) You may not need all right now but need flexibility for future.
I am confused because it clearly states PDA version which is local remote only. It is a handheld device that talks to the automation box. However it also states iAquaLink which to me indicates it is the web (and app) version. That is called RS4, 6 or 8. The RS provides remote access via internet. It is feasible to have both PDA and RS but it requires 2 antennas. One is for local remote access via the PDA and the other antenna is for remote access via internet. The RS PCB allows both to be connected. You would do all your programming via the internet access and use the PDA for control of non-scheduled events. Suggest you seek clarification and request the part number for the 2 line items they have provided for the PDA and iAquaLink

Other feedback
The VAC line is for a suction side cleaner. I do not see that listed unless you plan to purchase separately.
The Jandy ePump and AP1400 SWCG are good.
I do not see a heater. You may not want or if you wish to consider it in the future, then ensure the equipment pad is large enough to accommodate it. this avoids pouring another pad in the future.

There is a calculation regarding turnover. That is somewhat of a myth. Also, since you have a Variable Speed Pump you will not be running at full speed (60 gpm or higher) all the time. The beauty of a VS pump is to run it at lower speeds to gain the energy efficiency and still produce chlorine via the SWCG and create circulation for the skimmer. I run mine 21 hrs a day and for 18 hrs of that it is at 1500 rpm (less than 30 gpm) to create chlorine and 3 hrs at 2400rpm (50gpm) for skimming. (Actual flowrates at RPMs vary based on plumbing design). Hope this helps.

Skimmer is between the AF and the Vac Line on the drawing :) re: two skimmers i'll inquire with the builder their thoughts on pushing middle skimmer back and adding one at the shallow end

Got it. I interpreted the VAC as being that port. I see it now as a separate line for VAC and the round image is the skimmer. They did position the skimmer to receive the flow output from the returns on opposite wall.

Dig day complete. Concrete due to be shot tomorrow! Let me know if you all spot anything else 😊
Did you do any basic measurements of the dugout pool to ensure it meets your end requirements. You can consider about 6-8 inches in from the dirt to be the finished gunite wall. Think about 3 inches on each side of the rebar frame being in middle of the gunite wall.
Check where the steps are going to be as well for proper heights.

Second point - did they run any of the basic plumbing through the walls or on the bottom? I do not see any pictures after the dig was done.

Looks like upload through mobile failed. I'll try again shortly when back on a laptop, but yes rough plumbing done. I did measure sunshelf for depth since we wannted at least 8-9 inches, but I will also attempt some other basic measurements.

SWEET!!! That looks great! Have you started bonding with it yet? aka watering it to help slow down the curing.

It is time for your set of links! The first set is all about what to do and ask about to get a great plaster job. The second set is all about how to care for your pool after you get the plaster.
