Inherited a complex pool

My pool is a concrete, 30,000 gal pool with an elevated spa that water falls into the pool. The spa has bottom drain, returns and blower. Pool has bottom drain, wall returns and skimmer with both ports active.
The filter is cartridge, no multiport valve, actuators, polaris pump, salt system and heater.

I attempted a closing but not sure it was done correctly.

I used a cyclone and made an attachment for the filter or heater fitting. The heater fitting was easiest to reach so I started the process of blowing out the lines. All the actuators were in open mode. The skimmer line in the pool and the returns in both the pool and spa started to blow out. I systematically plugged each line And the spa drain started to blow but not the main drain in the pool. I let it run for a few minutes but could only get the bottom drain in the spa to blow out so I shut that line down. I should mention that there are only two lines coming into the pump from the pool and the spa. I read an article that I could blow the cool drain by pumping air in to the filter line which did work and then plugging it quickly. After doing that I noticed that water reappeared in the skimmer so I used my vacuum this time to pull out as much water as I could which did out to the skimmer elbow. I added antifreeze and closed it back up. I checked the skimmer after a rainstorm and water had come back up. Now I’m worried that I didnt winterized if correctly. I also say a video that showed using the spa blower while blowing out the lines. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

Welcome to TFP.

You cannot completely blow out the main drain. You want to blow the water down the pipe enough so that no water is above your frost level in the ground. The frost line in NJ is about 20 inches.

Skimmer boxes will accumulate water from rain running into them. You should put cut up pool noodles in the skimmer box or half full plastic jugs to provide a crush zone for any ice formation. That is also what a foam Gizzmo does in the skimmer.

Thanks. I used a blow out tube for the skimmer and I crafted a blow out tube for the main drain which worked well when I blew it down snd plugged it. My concern is that water creeped up into the skimmer line so I was thinking of blowing that down as well as blowing back through the pump to create the air locks. I’m also concerned about any water that might be in the blower line for the spa. I was thinking about running the vac on it just in case.

Post pics of your equipment pad and pool so we can follow along with what you are describing.
