Sand filter (head) connections.

Hi there
I have a Questa Jetstream Hi Fliw Sand filter with a Davey style MPV. Tthis question is for my educational purposes but I’m sure someone here will be able to answer it. The connections in my filter from the pump into the filter and from the filter through the salt chlorinator to return to the pool appear to have a threaded part that screws into the filter head and the nut and tail (with o ring) locate into that part. Are some Davey barrel union sets actually plumbed into (in other words the male threaded part the nut and tail screw onto) get glued into some sand filter heads rather than being threaded in? Hope this makes sense. Cheers

Pictures would help. But in general, many filters have threaded connections into the filter body which is where the half union connects. The other half union is a slip fitting to connect to regular PVC pipe.
The union makes it easy to disconnect the filter if needed. The threaded connection allows that half union to be easily removed should that part become damaged or not sealing properly into the other half of union.

The last image is of the barrel union set so the fitting to the right is the part that the nut and tail attach to. My question is how does that then attach to the sand filter if there’s a threaded part as in the first image?
Cheers
Have you tried to attach the 2 fittings on the left directly to the exiting part on the filter? They look compatible in the picture, but you need to try it.

Hi there
Yes, the nut and tail fit to the existing fitting on the sand filter. I was wondering how the other part would fit? It’s not needed but more a question of how would that work?
Cheers
Unions are sold as a set of 3 parts (actually 4 if you consider the seal ring). That part that is identical to the existing thread already attached to the filter is not needed for your application. If you were trying to join 2 pieces of pipe together, then then both end pieces would be needed (one on each separate pipe) and the "nut" would join then together.
