Cartridge Filter - I was expecting more filth

Just sharing my experience here - I finally shut down the pool this past week and opened up my cartridge filter for its first cleaning since it was installed the first week of June. I've continued using skimmer socks and have a pre-filter which pulls out a lot of the heavy stuff that comes in through the main drain.

After over five months of use I was expecting the cartridges to be significantly dirtier, as my 36sqft FNS Plus needed to be back washed approximately every 30 days. I was able to clean up the cartridges in about 30 minutes. This filter conversion experience has been incredible, the flow is much improved and the pool appears much cleaner.

Anway, we'll see if I'm as ecstatic after opening the pool in the spring.

IUTS,

I also have a large cartridge filter and find the same is true for me..

I use hair nets in the skimmers, but have no need for a pre-filter, but only clean my cartridges twice a year. Once in the Fall and once in the Spring. The key for me is to do it when it is still warm enough to get wet.

Large cartridge filters have dirt simple plumbing and a lot of surface area, so there is almost no back pressure. No DE to mess with and no back wash valve to leak or go bad.

I love them!!!

Thanks,

Jim R.
