Have a remote that just quit working. Thought it was the batteries so swapped them out with a fresh pair, still nothing. The indicator light at the bottom of the remote doesn't flash as it used to and all the buttons are no longer in control of any of their functions. Before I make a $400 order for a replacement is there anything I can try? I disassembled it but didn't see anything obvious.

Seems so obvious, but many times the batteries are installed in the wrong orientation. Seen it many times. Would be good to check on that.

It's the Hayward AQL2-SS-RF wireless remote. See post below for a long shot fix.

I bought the house a year ago but it's 15 years old so it's likely the original one, 15 yrs old.
As above AQL2-SS-RF GEN 2 RADIO Is there a way to tell the mfg date from the serial number?
Will read through the above link on the timer. BUT since the remotes indicator light isn't functioning I think it's something internal to the remote. Now having said that I'm going off an assumption that the light flashes from the remote and not from a signal from the control board back to the remote. I remember how it blinked once when you push a button and then with a very short pause it'd blink twice.

Kiss, if it’s actually 15 yrs old, both you and orig owner prob have a record for any Hayward remote. Todays model don’t have replaceable batteries by design, last for about 3-4 yrs and you then spend another $400+. Essentially, you’re leasing it for $8-$12/mo.

If you’re not inconvenienced by doing things manually, you could have a component level tech Ck it out for you. If not, see if you can buy a replacement. Also, don’t expect the next one to last 15-16 yrs…good luck

I'd have to say it's hard for me to justify spending the $$$ on a replacement remote when there is so much other stuff after hurricane Ian that needs repair or replacement.
The convenience of having the remote is nice as the alternative has me going out on the lanai, through the screen door and then walking back half way down the side of the house to the equipment pad.
Guess I'll be waiting for something else major to break and then go with a new Pentair system that would interface with my phone. At least that sounds like a good idea presently.

Yes, always more $$$ for convenience.

Sorry about your Ian experience snd i hope you and your community recovers quickly. At least this H season seems over and cooler temps are on the way. Good luck & post back if you guys have any more questions.

I had the older model, AQL-SS-RF, and it went bad. I kept watching eBay and took about 4-6 weeks but finally found one for $75 including shipping. The seller guaranteed it and it looked like new when I received it, put the batteries in and went into settings menu to teach wireless and low and behold, it worked.

You missed the part about the remote at the end of that post.

There is a remote emulator in Android that can be used in conjunction with an Elfin EW11 that you would put inside your Aqua Logic. It will connect directly to the RS-485 terminal and draw it's power from that.

Guinness, are you talking about reply #18 where that person mentions putting it in the freezer?

The part about using the $20-30 EW11 sounds almost too good to be true. Is that really just as simple as mounting the device and connecting four wires and then setting it up on your phone? That would seem to solve my issue easily.
