This is the third year I've done this, so I figured I have enough results to call it workable.

I've used the "lump in a sock" or "dangle in a stocking" method for years, but it's universally _slooooow_ and always a pain finding something to use. For the last 3 years I've been using filter socks in the skimmer. I just dump the granules in the filter sock, and within an hour they're gone. Not a trace remain, and a water test immediately after shows the predicted level in the water.

With a clean filter, my pool pulls about 150L/min through the skimmer so the concentration through the filter and pipework isn't enough to cause an issue. The granules end up evenly distributed across the whole sock surface, and with the surface area and water flow it just dissolves rapidly.

Of course I have a small pool, so I don't ever drop more than a kg in there but it never takes more than an hour before it's entirely gone.

The most significant issue in CYA through the skimmer is it can get backwashed out from the filter if it isn't fully dissolved. Normally, that isn't the case but TFP likes the safest method possible which involves putting CYA in an old sock.

I use a very fine mesh grain bag (the same as I use for brewing - well... not exactly the SAME one:)) and place it in the skimmer. It's always dissolved by the end of the day. I haven't experienced any issues so far.

I have always put stabilizer in a skimmer sock and hung it in front of a return. It’s always dissolved quickly and, squeezing it a few times, it’s dissolved pretty easily, within a couple of hours. Now though, although I buy the same brand all the time (amazon), this latest batch is taking forever to dissolve. Hours later there is still a lot of undissolved stabilizer left. Strange. I might just try putting the bag in the skimmer.
