Loving the spa today, and like this time every year I'm thinking of treating the spa (mostly) separately from the pool this winter, only running the pool filter once every couple of weeks, to circulate the water.
This would allow us to keep the spa closer to our desired temperature, saving on heat up time and expense.
My thought is to keep the spa balanced (understanding that it's trickier with the lower volume/higher temp), and to raise the pool chlorine level in the pool every couple of weeks or so and let it drift down (but not below target.) The pool will be covered, so with cooler temps and less UV, it will lose chlorine more slowly.
I'm pretty achy-breaky these days and plan to be in the spa almost daily.
Thoughts, comments?

Give it a try and see how it works for you.

I wonder how well your HP will heat and maintain the spa in the coldest times. Depends how cold a winter you get.

This is west central Florida, and I'm a huge weather sissy. Lowest outdoor temp we'll go in is mid-60s. The heat pump can handle that - for the spa. It takes DAYS to heat up the pool once it gets really cold*
*really cold: Granna has to wear shoes outside.

+1. Give it a whirl and keep us posted. :)
Well, day 1 is a bit of a bust. Had a poopisode, and while it seemed to be completely contained in the swim diaper, I put the SWG into super-chlorinate mode (we used our on-hand chlorine to raise levels before Ian) and am back in pool mode. We'll get some chlorine tomorrow, raise to SLAM levels, then try, try again on the spa separation.

Life. Don't talk to me about life.

Hmmm, let me think about this.

You will keep the pool permanently in Spa mode. The pool will be covered with a solar blanket. Sounds interesting.

Couple of ideas, do you have a solar blanket cut for the Spa? Probably will really help keep that heat in overnight.
Run the robot every couple of days in the pool to keep the water mixed.
Since you will be in the Spa daily the spa water will get filtered (not that means much).

You will need to test often early in this process to figure it out.

Let us know how it goes. I might be interested in duplicating it for a few days at a time.
