The weirdest stain….

…or maybe not-so-weird to the more experienced hands here.

Gunite pool, using Nature2 (yes, I know). Had this pool for almost ten years.

The plaster and paint are mottled, to be sure, but the surface is still smooth and uniform.

Within the last 24 hours, this stain appeared out of nowhere on the bottom of the pool. There was *nothing* in this spot yesterday.

It looks almost like a burn mark where a large firework was set off, but obviously that is not what happened here. Or maybe something was dropped in the pool, landed where the darkest area is, and then subsequently dissolved?

I've tried scrubbing it, and it won't come up (at least, not easily). The surface is still completely smooth like the rest of the pool walls. No crumbling, pitting, cracking, etc.

We get a fair amount of pine needles and cones that fall in the pool, but nothing has ever settled to the ground and stained the bottom.

It appeared so quickly, I have no clue. Does anyone have any idea what this could possibly be?

Please and thank you.

Ok, that pretty much rules out rebar or rebar wire tie bleed through.

Try putting some vitamin C on the spot, which will indicate iron if the spot clears.

If not, it's probably organic and it will go away on its own.
