tf100 cya test help

I figured I would give another go at raising stabilizer to 70, so added another 2lb(20ppm). Tested at got maybe 60ppm. I’ve added 10lbs of cya so far since opening. I know it’s not a big deal, just find it funny how it doesn’t match expectations. I feel like this test might work for deionized water in lab, maybe not so much for pool water. Wish there was something better but doesn’t seem to be.

Your obviously having trouble with the test. Lots of people do. The best thing you can do is buy the standard solution for $6.50. It’s basically just water at 50ppm CYA. Use it instead of pool water to run a test. What you see at the end of the test is 50ppm. To me 50ppm starts to disappear at around the 40ppm mark. So when I do the test I just add 10ppm to where I see it disappear. Everyone sees it differently. The standard solution will teach you what it’s supposed to look like.

Thank you! I have been having a terrible time with the cya test. Of course right now it’s because my cya is 25 to 28 best guess which is the top of my comparator. I had no idea this solution existed. I will give it a go and see what the end result will look like. Thanks.

This is my 50ppt reference solution test. The CYA test really isn't that big a deal.

You’re right, it’s usually not. I confess being a little obsessed over it myself though on those days when the water just doesn’t seem to have that TFP sparkle and FC seems a little lower than usual (but still well within what should be enough to kill algae at the “measured” CYA) and it’s like ok, what’s going on here — probably nothing lol.
