Jandy JXI400N - Trouble Air

I have found these sites lie and say they have when they don't. I ordered a sheet of 1" refractory material to make my own using my old one as the pattern.
I agree with you and have found the same thing for most. Parts4heating.com is a little different. Never super cheap and authorized dealers for many parts including Fenwal for example. They also supply a lot of HVAC heating, water heaters and pool heaters. Can't remember who suggested I try them, may have been @swamprat69. They also have a real customer service department that can help with most problems. Not advertising for them or anything - just that after getting the runaround from many of the fly-by-night dot com store fronts it was just great to deal with a real store. Here's a snip of the "chat discussion" verifying they have 2 in stock if I have the part number correct:

Maybe this piece was warped? The new heat exchanger includes the metal surround so if so, that'll fix that as well.

It doesn't look like the large rectangle gasket was leaking it looks like water pool at the bottom and never got passed the gasket. Could be one of those round gaskets was leaking though.

If the can was full of water, it's a leaking heat exchanger. Highly doubtful that the metal plate is warped. I've never encountered one in my 12 years of heater repairs.

They want $31 for shipping. Which sucks. Not sure what I will do I got in the 2 sheets of refractory. I will try to make my own and see how that works out.

Yep, agreed on shipping. They're never lowest price but usually also not the high price. I'd probably do what you're doing. Take care to make it as identical as possible and make sure all metal is protected at least as well as the original. Also, please to keep us posted. This will be very interesting to follow.

I have used and been happy with them previously. Needed a condenser fan motor for a small 1 1/2 ton heat pump that was low rpm (850), fractional and used a Molex plug. They had the exact OEM part for ease of installation and good delivery time.

I got the new refractory board cut using the old as a template. Only these two thick pieces needed to be replaced the other 2 are fine. I made them slightly oversized like 1/2".

New heat exchanger is IN! No leaks so far but I am going to let it run for 1/2 and hour before I put everything back together.

I made sure the combustion chamber was bone dry so any leaks at all and I will know.

Nice job 👍

Sucks that the exchanger popped a leak after only 5 years. Back in the day there were auto shops you could take that to and they could pressure test and patch the leak with a little brazing torch and some High temperature silver solder. Nowadays … it’s just a throw away part. Sad.

I was too beat last night to do anything more so this morning I am bringing it from 79 to 85. There seems to be more heat coming out of it than there was before so I think this has been leaking for awhile.

I really can't stress enough how these worthless plastic pads should be outlawed. I think they are the root of the problem.

Question: Does anyone know if I can get the below parts in plastic or possibly brass? When I opened the heater up this is rusting into the heater manifold area. \

Is that a water line? To where?

Or your gas line?

No - that is like a hot water heater has an emergency overflow I guess if it (the water) gets too hot. I can't imagine it does anything at all though with the sensor so far from the water. I should just remove it and plug the hole.

Don’t use PVC as it is not allow for the purpose.

It’s a safety feature that is required in some code.

It allows pressure relief under certain conditions.

It's a psv recommended to install by Jandy. Available from the big box stores. Mine came with a punch out for it and an option to install.
