New member pool planning in N. Atlanta - Construction Completed 7/2022

So here's the remaining to do list: wash and seal stone walls and coping, finish drainage, water garden on backside of upper decking, fencing, lighting, landscaping, PebbleTec & fill! Not a long list, and a lot of it can happen concurrently. Decking ran under quote, so we'll get $$ credited back towards the other stuff as well! Target completion is first week in June... Gooooooo!

Unfortunately not a ton of progress in the last few weeks. We were originally scheduled for Pebble next week, but it had to get pushed to week of 6/13. The biggest delay has been the fencing... The PB's recommended fencing contractor kept pushing our date back, so we're going with another fencing company. Our city code requires a final fencing inspection prior to fill, or they will shut down the site and impose fines. In the interim, the PB finished up their general cleanup, grading and drainage work. We signed the landscaping quote, and should have the fencing quote tomorrow. Landscape lighting guy is also coming out later this week. I'm not happy about our swim date slipping, but if we can maintain current schedule, it won't be too bad.

Final grading is finished and landscaping is starting tomorrow! I'm excited, as that is really going to make a difference in overall appearance. The PB also finished filling any pipe voids in the pool with hydraulic cement, cleaned all of the nasty out of the pool shell and did some waterproofing in preparation for Pebble. They'll likely need to push Pebble back to the week of the 20th, since I'm still getting the run around on fencing. I do have someone that can finish before the end of the month, which will hopefully have us swimming by the 4th. I just wish I would have known sooner, as I would have coordinated it well in advance! Landscape lighting came in where we expected it price-wise, so that will start next week (about 30 lights in total and it will be integrated with iAqualink).

I was able to get 2 more fencing quotes with shorter lead times, so I think I'll be good for the 4th. The landscaper also showed up today with a small horde! They must have at least 15 guys working a combination of ground prep for sod, beds, rain garden and drainage. I feel like a kid with ADD... I don't know who/what to watch! I keep getting interrupted by work as well... maybe I should just take leave and have a margarita!🍹

So fencing will be happening the week of the 27th, as will Pebble... Landscape Lighting will be on the 7th. Here are some pics of the completed landscaping. We're going to wait until fall to do a lot of the planting on the hill and the backside of the decking, since it's so hot here. We're planning several more hydrangea (oak leaf and traditional), gardenia, pink muhly grass, creeping phlox, creeping jenny, a number of ferns, and likely a wisteria tree. The water control includes a 12x12 catch basin in the stone (next to the walkway), and all of the downspouts were buried using 4" corrugated that all feed a larger 8" corrugated pipe that was trenched to just in front of the rain garden with a cool pop up drain and large river rock. The pool overflow feeds directly into the rain garden via 2" PVC. The rain garden is 24' long by about 4-5' across and 3' deep. The pool equipment will have an L shaped section of privacy fencing, and my smoker/grill will be going next to it, as well as a pool storage box. On the mulch pathway side, I'll be doing a large/deep arbor.

So... how long does Pebble need to cure without rain? The reason I ask is that our PB is trying to schedule Pebble this week, but the forecast is terrible with possible thunderstorms every single day!

On a side note, fencing is going in today... finally! I've been knocking out a lot of smaller projects in the interim. I redid our small pathway off the brick patio with larger river rock to match the stuff that was just installed by the pool. I also got enough help to move all of the cast stone planters we got a while back for a steal on Facebook market. The seller was selling their multi-million dollar house, and the new buyer said they weren't modern enough. I looked up the big ones (think tree size) and they retail at $1200 each. The smaller ones were $800ish. We got a mix of 8 total for $100! They were a pain to move, but look great. We also got 2 Polywood Adirondack chairs and a table for the bump out. Last but not least, I got my new GFCI outlet installed on the backside of the upper decking, so I'm ready to use my robot!

Will talk about plaster if you will share pics of the planters!!! Deal???

Plaster in the rain is not a good idea. Now if they can/will tarp it so the rain does not fall onto OR run into/on the plaster then that would work.

 I'll get you some planter pics kimkats! I guess if we do need to tarp the pool, it wouldn't be too hard. You could use the deck on one side and a couple of temporary posts on the back side. I knew we didn't want to get the new plaster wet immediately or it could cause channels/streaking. I just wasn't sure how long it needed to cure.

Exciting news, we have a date for Pebble! It's not going to happen before the 4th, but they got very close. Pebble will be on the 5th, with acid wash and fill on the 6th! The landscape lighting is still scheduled for the 7th. The water may be a little cold, but we're planning a grand opening party on the 9th!

oh, and kimkats, here are pics of the planters! It's tough to get an idea of size from the pics. They are in descending order largest to smallest and there are 2 large, 2 medium and 4 small. The largest are 36" across the top and weigh about 350lbs each. Eventually, the large ones will have a lemon and lime tree in them, but it was too late this season.
