Tested my TA the other day and it was 60. Pool math said to add 6 pounds of baking soda to raise it to 80 so I did last night. Tested today and my TA is 100? What the heck?

I am guessing on pool volume from my water bill when I did the liner replacement and from chlorine additions and testing. But to raise ta that high my pool would be like 14000 gallons or something crazy. 18x36 with an 8 foot deep end

Also, my ph was 7.2 so I added 4 pounds of borax (20 mule) last night. This morning ph is still 7.2.

Any ideas?

Dustin,

I’m not the expert you need, but the first questions will be:
1. what test kit are you using?
2. how old are the regents ?

Leave your pH at 7.2 regardless of how you got there - it's fine

Also should have left your TA at 60 but done is done. Ta will slowly come down but 100 is not bad.

Last, as tsconner says

1. What test kit are you using
2. How old is it?

If you have kept it out of the heat and cold and rain, that kit will last you this season.

The TA suggested range is slowly being lowered as we can get to each article. 60-80 TA seems to work a little better.
