Not sure what this is on my stairs and walls and it does not want to come off.

With the possibility of hard water should I maybe reconsider and have it trucked in?
Use the hard water as you do want some calcium. So it is best to have water with calcium from the tap. But you need to test - so if you have those test strips for the interim then that provides you an estimate of where you are with calcium levels.

It should be noted, - test strips, if you have them handy, are not a substitute for testing with a proper test kit, but they are suitable to get an estimate and avoids traveling to pool store (gas prices are currently at record levels) just to test for calcium levels.

If you do go to a pool store to have a full test of your pool water, then don't be conned into buying a bunch of non-essential chemicals. Just take that data and report back for guidance. Suggest you order your test kit ASAP.

On a side note my brother suggested potentially painting the pool until I can do the replaster. I am not sure if this is worth the effort or not seems like it could be a massive pain in the butt to do. Does anyone have any experience with the "pool paint" ?

Our pool is painted. It’s what we inherited. It has several layers of paint and we were told that one of the previous owners used a different type of paint than was used previously, and this is causing the paint to chip off in many places. I end up with a lot of small paint chips in the bag every time I vacuum (I use a Pool Blaster vacuum almost every morning). The chipping probably wouldn’t look so bad if one of the previous coats of paint wasn’t blue, since the more recent paint color used is white, and the chips expose the blue layer.

We’ll probably do another coat of paint next year, since it looks good for a couple of months before it starts chipping again. Our pool guys told us that the best thing to do to get rid of the chipping problem would be to sandblast the entire interior surface and repaint. We might do the sandblasting, but it’s fairly expensive.

I honestly don’t think the painted surface would be bad if it wasn’t for the incompatible paint that was previously used in a different color.

I just got my TFT-100 the other day so I am good to go once the draining/cleaning is finished. Ill have to test the water before I go and fill it entirely back up. I got the hydrostatic plug out of the shallow end so far pumps still working on the deep end :(.

I noticed that there seem to be outlines of dead worms on the bottom. It almost like a worm homicide scene with chalk outlines :ROFLMAO:. Anyway it seems like wherever there was a worm the bottom is clear and white... So it sort of has me thinking there is hope that it may be staining. I spilled a little acid on a small spot on one of the stairs and let it sit for 2 or 3 min. It looks a heck of a lot better then just scrubbing/pressure washing. May take a trip to get some safety gear and give it an acid wash

NO. Pool paint is terrible.
I'm probably going to regret asking this, but please explain your opinion as to why "pool paint is terrible."

If it wasn't for the fact that one of the previous owners of our pool used an incompatible paint over a previous coat, I don't believe we would be having any issues at all with our painted pool, which is more than 50 years old, looks pretty good. functions very well and is fairly easy to maintain.

The pool paints available today are not the same pool paints of yesteryear due to epa restrictions. Therefore any new paint job- even if prepped properly & done with the utmost care will not adhere for long. If u get several years out of a new paint job you’re doing good now. Plan to re do it frequently - every 3-5 yrs to keep it looking good .

Little off topic question here... I finished getting the pool drained and the plugs pulled yesterday. I had 1 plug on the shallow end, two plugs on the deep end and 2 main drains that are connected. Inside the main drains there is what appears to be yet another plug? Can anyone tell me what that is ? Why the heck are there so many plugs :(

If repainting every 3 to 5 years is the only downside, this is a viable option for the OP and shouldn't have been dismissed so easily. It should be up to him if he wants to repaint every 3 to 5 years. It looks like he's struggling with the appearance of his pool interior, and painting could be a fairly easy and cost effective solution.

We repainted ours 2 years ago and have already decided that we'll probably repaint again next year. It isn't that difficult and the cost for our 35,000 pool (painting it ourselves) is about $350.

Just making sure they are informed of the reality of what to expect with pool paint & that it’s likely just the nature of pool paint that is causing the issues they have now not necessarily the application.

How do you know when it's time to repaint?

@jimmythegreek , @JamesW do y'all have any insight to offer?

The ground water might get high at times which increases the risk of floating the pool.

What is the groundwater situation?

I would have tried a sulfamic acid treatment before draining and refilling.

Water-level measurements in this report are given in feet with reference to land-surface datum (lsd).

Land-surface datum is a datum plane that is approximately at land surface at each well.

If known, the elevation of the land-surface datum above sea level is given in the well description.

The height of the measuring point (MP) above or below land-surface datum is given in each well description.

Water levels in wells equipped with recording gages are reported for every fifth day and the end of each month (EOM).
