are these pool cleaners mostly for bigger kinds of debris?

when i open my pool I usually have a gray powdery looking substance on the floor of my pool. I think it's dead algae, but i'm not sure. I occasionally get it during the season as well.

i usually vacuum it to waste, or to the filter if there isn't much of it.

will a pool cleaner keep that stuff in the filter?

or, will it just go through the filter and back into the water, so i still have to vacuum it after it settles?

Without an owners manual in front of me, I can't begin to tell you what degree of success you can expect from the various types of pool cleaners (suction or robot) at picking-up debris. What I can tell you is that they will do nothing for algae if that's what you still have. Since opening, have you performed an Overnight Chlorine Loss Test yet?

I'm not really asking it to take care of algae - just to clean up fine gray stuff that has settled to the bottom - which might be dead algae

i haven't done the overnight test yet
