Hi, I posted last week when my pool was dark green (first year owning a pool). I got a lot of great advice and am happy to report the pool is now clearish and blue! Shallow end is pretty clear. I can make out the main drain through 8+ feet of water. I don't think anyone would call it "crystal clear" however, so I know there is still work to be done. It is getting clearer each day. Is it just a matter of letting the filter do it's job and backwashing every so often?

Here are my current levels. I was SLAMing (or at least attempting it, might not have been perfect) but plan to let the FC levels drop a little now that everything is looking good. Unless someone suggest something else.

CYA - 30-40 (so I guess 40?)
FC - 10
CC - 0
pH - 7.5
TA - 130
CH - 190

Aside from being colorblind (had my wife help with the colors), I actually have really good eyesight otherwise. At one point I was 20/10, probably not that good anymore as I'm getting older. I bring that up to ask if that matters at all as it relates to CYA and the black dot? I'm pretty sure I could BARELY make out the black dot at 30, but it started fading out way before that. I wish there was a more concrete way of knowing this value, since it seems so vital.

Doug, I wouldn't let-up on the SLAM Process until you are sure you passed all 3 SLAM criteria. If you stop early you run the risk of algae returning. I worry about that water still being cloudy. Round up the CYA to 40 and your FC SLAM level is 16. The dot should go away completely.

On a personal note, I can relate somewhat to the vision difficulties. Had a CRVO in my r/ eye back in the '90's (before injections were available) and lost all vision in that one. 29 years later to the same month and I got another CRVO in my L /eye. Unbelievable. Now I get VEG-F injections every 30 days. My vision went from 20/15 to ...... well ...... worse. I don't have the color struggles, but somewhat in the same eye-challenged world.

Your numbers above are good, just be sure to finish the SLAM completely so you don't go backwards. Good luck!
