New pool build in Spring, TX - Done...sort of

Almost full (pool part, at least)! Moving the hose to the spa next and then PB will be here Monday to do the 1st of 9 visits for startup during next 3 weeks. Clean up and rough grade should also be done next week so that we can get a landscape designer out. So close!

Pool’s been filled and we’re on our 2nd week of plaster startup. They’ve been out every few days to brush and check pool chemistry. Just got my TF-100 kit to in today so I can check their work 😀. Clean up crew came out last week to pick up trash and grading crew is finally out today to get all the dirt and put in our drainage.

We’ve had landscape designers out but they can’t give us firm numbers until they see how much more grading they would have to do and any additional drainage needs. In the meantime we can at least enjoy the patio (put our furniture out, couldn’t wait) with this rare time of nice weather in Houston! So close!

So pool is complete... sort of. We had pool school last Monday and we went over the punch list. Our biggest issue is something we noticed when our landscape guy came out: the big seating area of the decking is not square (see pic below).

A big thank you to this forum for making sure I held something back (12%) so that I have some leverage to get them to fix it. No response from them yet. Since we want to lay a walkway next to the seating area it not being straight would have made it look quite off.

After pool school I decided to practice testing our pool with the TF100 kit and discovered that we had no FC! You can see that story in my other thread, but the tl;dr is that even though the PB told me that it was “fine” and that the SWCG would eventually catch up the FC level I didn’t trust his advice and got some real advice from this forum again. And thanks to mknauss and others I have a sparkling clear pool!

So at this point I’m waiting on the PB for punch list items and trying to get our landscaping going…unfortunately because the pool build took so long it’s the busy season and I’m having to wait for our landscaper availability which is now late May. We may try to do some small things ourselves but meanwhile we were at least able to enjoy the pool at a balmy 79 degrees yesterday. Didn’t bother the kids much 😂

Seems like really bad pool school training. From what I gather, you are just about one month from adding water. Your SWCG couldn't have been running in that time because of the new plaster. So your PB advice is to run for an entire month without any kind of chlorination, and then let the SWCG "catch up" when you get to fire it up? Really bad advice, and a good story for others who come across this build for what not to do.

Despite the issue with the "off square" sitting area, it looks like a nice place to hang out. Not sure how they will address and fix it, but nice to have a little hold back as some leverage.

Yeah, their advice didn't sound right from the outset and thankfully this forum was here for me. Once the pool is done the PB definitely doesn't have your best interests at heart.

It's been awesome being able to sit outside and use the backyard (somewhat). Did just get an update from the PB that they will be fixing the decking (whenever they can get their concrete guys on the schedule) as well as the other punch list items. I'm not sure I would have had any response if I didn't still have their money...
