I'll be plumbing in a new Pentair Quad DE filter, multiport and VS pump in the next few weeks, and I was looking for suggestions on how to make my plumbing more efficient. The existing plumbing layout has been there for at least the last 20 years we've lived here - with the exception of occasional repairs done and a heater installation.

I do plan on installing a heater bypass (with Jandy 3-way and check valve).
  • Anything else I should consider?
  • Anything I can add to help make my closings easier? I had a system set up with my old Nautilus FNS filter where I connected a leaf blower to the intake piping in the filter to blow my lines out - but I'm not sure I can do that with this new filter.
thank you!

About the only thing I would recommend is to get a quad Clean and Clear plus cartridge 320 to 520 filter instead of the DE Filter... They are crazzy easy, only need to be cleaned 1 time a year.. with a 3 way valve between the pump and filter you can still lower water level.. No need for a multiport valve and simpler plumbing... And no buying and discarding DE anymore.. The DE and 520 filter cost about the same.. :)

J,

Make sure that when you replace the pump, you use "Pump Unions" and not that Home Depot junk you now have. Pump Unions thread right into the pump and have an O-Ring on the threaded end that keeps them from leaking. They look like this...

When you open do you have to backwash a lot?

Thanks,

Jim R.

Thanks for the info regarding the unions.
I don't backwash a lot, I would normally tear down the filter and recharge when needed. But I do use recirculate if I'm dealing w algae or adjusting pH, etc.

thx!
