Hello,

I have a Hayward sand filter saltwater pool. This is the first time owning and maintaining a pool. My question is..My pool vacuum system works great when it's on "filter" or "backwash", but when I switch the valve to "waste" to vacuum, I get nothing. Not sure what the issue could be. Thanks.

To confirm a few things:
- You are using a manual vacuum and hose set-up correct?
- On filter & BW you get water suction at the vacuum end, but on waste no water pull at all?
- Can you post a pic or two of your equipment pad?
Yes,
A manual vacuum and hose setup. I've filled the hose with to make sure I have no air. The problem is, that I put Floc in because I local "pool" guy recommended (Ya, i'm learning). From what I hear, I can't vacuum to backwash or filter because it would build-up in the filter.

The install looks fresh, so the sellers might have had some work done in preparation for sell and someone just spalled it all back together without paying attention. But when the hoses are backwards on the MPV it makes for weird issues. Problem is they used adapters at teh MPV then glued the hose lines to those without using unions for future disassembly. So now the only way to disconnect the lines from the MPV is to cut the PVC. :brickwall: I'm looking around more to make sure there are no other explanations, but I'm pretty sure that's the problem.

Anytime. But now you have floc sitting on the bottom right? If you had a separate sump pump or something you might be able to pull to waste separately that way until you can address the filter connections. With the plumbing lines backwards to the filter, that means it's never really been working properly in filter or BW modes either. But one thing at a time I suppose .... getting that floc out of there.

Are those common PVC fittings, Home Depot, Lowes?
For this purpose you should be able to find them there and they would work. I got some last year before the whole supply shortage. That might be the only issue now. Amazon Prime will have them as well if they're out locally.

Besides getting the correct size (i.e. 1.5" or 2"), remember that unions come in threaded (for adapters) and slip (glue) variations.
