Hello! I’m embarrassed to admit that in the 9mo I’ve had my pool, I’ve never looked at my gauge 🥴. I ordered the glycerin-filled gauge from TFP. The instructions said to pull the little plug on it, and when I did, the glycerin squirted out. I’m sure that was user error. Anyone know if that was supposed to happen? Also, what psi should it be at? I just cleaned my filter and skimmer basket, and it’s at 4, if I’m reading it right. Surely that can’t be accurate…or good, right?

What pump do you have? Is it a VS pump? At what RPM?

Please list your equipment in your signature.
 
I thought I had it in my signature, but I will try again. Are you able to see the rest of the equipment in the signature? It is a VS Hayward. When I get home, I’ll figure out the exact model. I have it running on the lowest while I was scrubbing the walls, but even on the highest, it only went to like 6. I’ll update with RPM when I get home, too. Thank you
 
The rpm is 2400. Thank you all. Not sure how to fix my signature so everyone can see it. Maybe I need to try it on my computer vs my phone. I see all of my info 🤷🏻‍♀️
 
You and Allen are talking two different things. You are seeing the data on the Member panel. That is OK, but does not have the detail we like. Allen is talking about the Signature that shows up below your response. Turn your phone sideways to see it. It is easier to input that via a computer.

Filter pressure depends on the speed your pump is running and the size and cleanliness of your filter.

In a perfect world the filter pressure would be zero, but nothing is perfect.

Filter pressure is not an indication of how well your pump is running, but rather how hard it is to push water through the filter. Pushing water through a little, or dirty, filter means higher pressure, pushing the same water through a larger, or clean, filter means lower pressure.

Same goes for pump speed... The faster the pump runs the more water you are trying to force through the filter and the higher the pressure.

My filter pressure at 1200 RPM, is about one lb. At this speed, I have plenty of water to turn on my SWCG and for my skimmers to work well.

Just to be clear... You pull the plug on the gauge to equalize the pressure, then you put it back in.

Ok thank you so much for that explanation! I feel much better. Should I be concerned that some of the glycerin squirted out??

Also, can you see all of my equipment in my signature now? Thank you for your help.
 
The glycerin helps keep water out and dampens the vibration of the needle if there is any. Loss of glycerin won’t change the reading. You could fill it back up if you can find a small amount somewhere. Just leave a small air space to allow for temperature changes.
