Need your help — Major problem? Minor problem? Or, No real problem?

Some quick background: We installed an in-ground saltwater gunite pool this past November here in Louisiana. Gunite sprayed on November 12th. Followed by Plaster sprayed December 8th. PB then added water the next day. A week later, the water was declared “balanced” and the pool turned over to me after a 2-hr Pool School.

The problem: PB sub’d the gunite & plaster work. It wasn’t “acid-washed” or anything before adding water. Now, 3 months later, we are overrun with a fine white plaster sand. I have to wash my cartridge filter every ~3 days so as not to lose pressure to the bubblers, etc. Our Dolphin robot picks up cups of this stuff per day. Every time I call our PB to express concern, they tell me it’s completely normal and that it’ll take care of itself through the filter over time. I’m not really concerned with the plaster. It’s come a long way and no etching, etc. BUT, this stuff has created a gritty film everywhere. Specifically, it has been attaching itself within the guts of my Hayward pool pump & my gas heater. Will this shorten the life of this equipment or will it clean itself over time? I worry it’s mucked up my pump or shortened the life of the heater.4E249824-8CF1-48DE-BC2A-ACECDD06A933.jpeg928DA52F-E9F4-4150-890F-38CC94297E3C.jpeg3F25DCC4-0884-4501-96D8-32E60426BFB4.jpeg

Thoughts??? TIA for your helpful experience! 💦 🏊‍♂️

Was the pool brushed daily from the day it was filled?

Has the fine plaster that’s coming off been doing so since day one? Did the P/B explain why the plaster was not acid washed prior to filling with water?
It was coming off to a lesser degree since day one. After multiple questions, they sent the plaster sub back out to do some spot acid wash using a piece of pvc pipe with the water still in the pool. After that, the plaster dust really started more.

How about putting some Skimmer Socks (Amazon disposable hair nets) and put them inside your skimmer baskets. Let them help capture some of this plaster before it gets to your filter. Just toss away daily and replace a new one in the skimmer.

Once I capture the loose white plaster powder via a skimmer sock & my filter, do you think it will wash itself from being stuck to the walls of the plumbing, my filter housing & the guts of the pool pump/water heater? Or will that remain stuck to those surfaces? Thanks!

I would still be brushing, and do try the skimmer socks (you can buy some that you'll hose out and replace from any pool stores if you want to see how its capturing the white stuff).

Can you provide us with a full panel of test results please? How do you test?

Do you have a valve to turn off water to the heater while you figure this out?
