Forum changes

So it took me a couple days to realize that it is a persistent announcement. It stays till you click the X then it goes away and doesn’t bother you anymore. I was about to report it as a bug until I realized that. Perhaps they need an announcement about how announcements work now… :ROFLMAO:
OK, who forgot to turn that off? What stinks is the fact I spent 20 minutes looking just where we were saying it was Oct 13th 😂

Question 🙋‍♀️
Was part of the update making YouTube videos (& maybe others?) posted in threads automatically play? I have noticed this happening recently and it never did it before.
I’m really not sure on this one. I don’t think it’s something we control, but I’m not sure. I’ll read the update notes and see.

Sorry. I had a sample size of one there. But whatever you did do after searching for that date forever cleared the message for me before seeing Mr. Seyfert's reply so it wasn't a total waste! :) It wasn't persistent enough that I decided to take the effort to move the mouse over to that "X".....

Why can't I save the setting of "list" . The set default doesn't change from being grayed out so I can't change my default setting. If I go out of forum for a bit and not log out it still reverts back to the "card" option. Thanks for all.

I do like that the Bookmark Tag turns blue when you activate it for that specific post. It is a good reminded that you have saved that post for future reference. Thanks. Very helpful.

I wish I knew this answer but for some reason it wasn’t developed to. I’ve been in touch with the team that created the update and do hope to make it act that way in the future as it really is the expected behavior.

Now that it’s been a few weeks I’d like to bounce this back up some as I’m still unsure of the future. It’s safe to say we ALL agree that it’s a pain that things don’t save correctly and it’s something I’m working to address still. Everybody who’s angry their preferences aren’t saving, I agree with your frustration and greatly hope to figure out what’s occurring in the future.

That said, I’ll also add very early numbers are somewhat confirming my gut. New posts, new users, page views and user activity are actually increasing compared to before……although at a small rate. Im rather hopeful this trend continues in the future as the new interface will really play a huge part in our future plans. All this also said, I’m also realistic and know that things are still VERY early and any indication of improvement maybe caused by some other factor. I’m realistic when I say to myself that the old “lost view” does have some serious perks and it’s likely the view preferred by older demographics, which makes up the majority of the forum currently.

So, all this said……I’d like some feedback now that we’ve used the system for a few. I’d especially love to hear some comments from those of you who use the “card view” on how that’s working for you, good or bad. I know change always brings some uncertainty, but I’d love to listen to all to try to help move TFP in the right direction.

Not sure if this is changeable but one thing that deters me from using card view is that when glancing it doesn’t show the last person who replied like it does in list view. I use that info to determine whether or not the op may need my input or has likely received help from someone else versed on their particular subject already.
Also clicking to expand doesn’t open to the full thread - just the original post. Not sure if that keeps people from actually reading the full thread or not. If they click expand & then still proceed to click the thread title to open it or just move on. I noticed I have a tendency to just move on vs taking the extra step to click the thread title.

I'm not a fan of the card view but I'm part of the older demographics. I just prefer a list view for almost everything I do on a computer. I use a list view in Microsoft File Explorer. For my email in Outlook, I use a minimalist list view. One reason I like the list view is less scrolling.

I see both sides of it. The card view is to help suck new folks in, to give them a taste of what the thread is about and if they want to dive in further. For all of us regulars, the first post is useless and we have the list view to know page 27 has been further discussed.

FWIW- I don’t know if I’m in the “older demographics” category or not. I’m under 40 but over 30.
Technically a “millennial”🤣

I’m waiting for the Metaverse version where each thread has a Matrix Level Functional Digital Twin of the pool and system that we can go into and examine the actual equipment
Except for @Arizonarob ’s house. A virtual speedo is still more equipment than I want to see.
