Hi to everyone. We have had our pool now for 27 years. I drained the pool due to a leak, osmosis, black spots, rust and just a complete restore. Have had different quotes from painting to lining the pool. Prices have ranged from $6000 to $12000, to removing $7000. I have looked at paint companies and have chosen one here in W.A. I have now drained and propped the walls. I will follow the print out I was given on how to complete the job.
Size of pool is 8.6 metres x 3.6 metres, deep end 1.66 metres, shallow 0.9 metre. 40,000 litres.
The questions I have now is from research it looks like I will only have 6-7 years life from the paint even with constant checking of chemical levels. I have been informed that the edge of the pool even if painted with the epoxy paint will need a coating of polyurethane paint to protect the epoxy paint from the UV as it will chalk quickly. That is due to the edge and down the wall about 100mm not being under water as you can see from attached photo.
Just wanting to know:
  • Has anyone done this as in painting their pool themselves.
  • What did you use.
  • How did you protect it from UV damage.
  • How long has it lasted and any tips people can give me.
Thanks in advance.20211013_092230_resize.jpg20211013_092239_resize.jpg20211012_093517_resize.jpg

I just had my 37 year old fiberglass pool resurfaced with AquaBright It comes with a 10 year warranty. I do not know if there are any dealers in Oz that apply this. It is applied with a flame thrower! I only offer this as an alternative. I am not familiar with the product or process outlined above. I used to live on the Sunshine Coast in Mooloolaba.

River Pools and Spas has an article about it on their site. They cite that they are asked often about repairing existing FG pools, and EcoFinish is their recommended product.

I saw their Australian webpage AquaBRIGHT but I would need to pay them to restore it with their flamethrower, which I am quite sure would be outside of my budget. I have already bought the paint for the job anyway, and yesterday acid washed and scrubbed the pool. Waiting for next week to do the rest as rain is forecast for the next few days.
