Sight Glass

I have a Hayward sand pool filter, S244T. The valve on the top is marked SP714-A, and when I look for a sight glass to replace in the head, where there is none now I'm suffering from serious frustration. I bought what was suggested to me by the web sites and I ended up with a glass thats the wrong size. The glasses I think are the right ones look like they are going to be 20+ dollars with another $10 for shipping. If I'm going to order this again, I'd like to make sure I get the right thing. It's pretty frustrating to order something the looks like it's about the same level of complexity as a simple baby food jar but have to spend this much money and have it be this frustrating a process. Attached is a photo of the valve body which shows the port where the sight glass goes.

Any help would be appreciated.

Do you have the manual for the filter? It usually has a schematic with part numbers in it someplace. If you don't have the manual in hand, check online. So many manuals are found online these days it might be the solution you need.

What part number did you get?

Looks like SPX0710MA is the sight glass for your MPV. $11.31 w/ free Amazon Prime shipping.

Yeah, that's the one I ordered and took delivery of and it's not the right one for my filter head. The diameter is too small and the threads are too fine and not deep enough.

Post a pic of the part you received with any packaging it was in.

The pictures show both sight glasses, but I do not know if they will both work or if there was a thread change at some point.

Are you sure that the new one will not fit?

It looks like the new glass sits deeper in the hole.

Remove the rubber washer from inside the hole and then maybe there are different threads deeper inside the hole.

Try removing the washer from inside the hole to see if the new glass will fit.

This video shows the older style glass sight glass.

None of the parts diagrams say anything about the new style sight glass being different from the old style.

So, the new style seems like it should work if you remove the rubber gasket.
