What is dumbest pool "contraption you've seen this year?

Maybe that is what happened to the poster from Delaware that had the stray voltage issue but hasn't been seen in a while.
The pool *was* built in October of ‘85. Maybe he’s then and not now. Sure would explain a lot.

Does this count as a "contraption"?

It makes my list of dumbest thing to add to a pool each and every year.

A newcomer to the site mentioned they fell for the marketing on a system, which after a brief scan of their website is holistic and all natural and not a SWG, but it uses "mineral removers" and Borates to remove CO2 from the water, and since all life including algae needs carbon to survive, with no CO2 in the water the algae cannot grow. Plus you only have to add chemicals to this "non chlorine system" every two weeks. Those two chemicals? Dichlor and Oxone.

"DiChlor is a very strong, fast acting, but short lived bacteria-stat. By only adding it every 2 weeks, all of the side effects of chlorine use are eliminated."

Right... Because for a week and a half of those two weeks, the pool's FC level is zero. One side effect of chlorine in the pool is... HAVING CLEAR, SAFE, ALGAE FREE WATER. I'm not so sure I want to eliminate that side effect in my pool.

One of their main products is called "Pi" or at least has the symbol on the "chem unit" which as near as I can tell doesn't do much if the owner still has to manually add chems every 2 weeks. The digital readout only says "Water Temperature". And for "sciency cred" points they also print out Pi to six decimal places. The nerd in me called BS because the last decimal they listed as the numbers fell off the side of the unit was a 2, which should have rounded up to a 3, because the next digit I know from memory is a 6. "-5 points for rounding. see me after class."

Only $695.00. Hurry before they sell out once people find out what a great product it is.

What a clown.
What was I thinking with this clumpy de-energized water i’ve been drinking/using? Mind blown 🤯

The type of wrinkles on the wall are the type you get when the TA is zero or below zero.

The iron stains cleared up because the pH is below 4.0.

Also, notice the foam and cloudiness of the pool water that he is so proud of. Nasty.

It's an indoor pool, so the amount of chlorine and backwashing will be significantly different from an outdoor pool.

The guy didn't even know what the steps were.

I noticed the wrinkles too & the suds… & oh yeah - it vacuums itself!

You can't remove all carbon dioxide at normal pool pH.
Well I guess some poor misguided individual in that company's marketing department didn't talk to the folks (if any) in their chemistry department and done went and told us a lil' white lie!

Keeping local emergency rooms in business since 2002.
A couple of the AquaClimb products look interesting, although they look to be engineered to industrial strength and durability, and almost certainly very expensive. At one point, I actually considered a zip line, though. Just needed a way to be sure it stopped long before reaching the other side. In the end I decided it was more risk than reward.

Same. I had tons of trees and an 8ft tall deck as launch points. The super tiny part of me that’s a grown up won the debate. Punk. I HATE that guy.

You shoulda done it, bro! You only live once!

Long before the pool, the original owners of our house built a zipline platform to the next door neighbors' yard. I disassembled it last January and considering the cost of lumber I turned most of it into a compost bin and am still working my way through the rest of the scrap.

The small voice in my head that won basically said, "Take this down before you climb up there and do something stupid."
