Hello all… first post here, but all the info has been great. I’m a first time pool owner of about a month and keep having issues with my Polaris getting tangled. The back up valve was broken so I replaced that and I’ve changed the swivels. The current issue look to be that when ever the backup valve turns on, it lifts the Polaris off the floor and does. Flip. This cause the tangling to begin and it gets worse from the there. Any ideas?

When photo uploading gets fixed post pics of the Polaris cleaner and the feeder hose showing the backup valve through the swivel.
 
How deep is your pool?

The leader hose from the cleaner to the backup valve must be equal to the greatest depth of the pool. Then you have one flat above the valve and another float 2' to 3' from it.

The swivel should be at the center of the overall hose length.

Toss the cleaner in the pool deep end and take a pic showing how the hose lays along the water.
 
I'm in Houston and we're getting some pretty nasty rain here with the TS coming in, but I'll try in a bit. Hose length seems to fine though. It works great until the back up valve kicks on and then it lifts off the floor and get tangled. Sometimes it gets out of it, sometimes it gets worse.
 
My suspicion is it is getting tangled because of the wrong hose lengthy and position of the floats.

I can't see anything wrong with your setup. I can tell you that sometimes small changes (moving floats, removing floats, rotating back up valve, changing direction of rear jet) can make a positive impact on how it runs. They can be temperamental at times. Does the hose itself seem rigid and not flex easily?
 
Are both of the red circles swivels?

You should only have one swivel at the halfway point of the hose.

You are missing a float 2-3 feet after the float by the backup valve.

You have too many floats on the back end of the hose. You need two or three floats before the swivel to keep the hose steady as the backup valve jets.

Disagree. There is a center swivel and a second swivel joining the feeder hose and the leader hose as shown in the diagram. 3 sections of hose require 2 swivels. IMHO you can't have too many swivels, and getting rid of a swivel is not only pointless, but literally impossible without replacing a whole stretch of hose. I do agree that the floats need better arrangement.

I would agree with @Rocket J Squirrel
There are a couple of critical lengths to minimize hose tangling. Those 2 feed hoses should be equal lengths with a swivel between them. Then a swivel that connects the feed hose to the lead hose. The overall lead hose should be the depth of your deepest part of pool. Also the overall length from the wall connection to the end that connects to the cleaner should be equal the longest reach in the pool + 6 inches (this is described in the diagram earlier).
I created a spreadsheet to verify what hose lengths I should have. Below is my before and after - I have not had any major issues with tangled hoses and I get full coverage, plus the cleaner pulls out any loops with help of the swivels.
I put a float directly above the back up valve, another float directly above the first swivel (above the leader hose), then spaced out other floats on the 2 feed hoses.

Ok, you guys pickup helping her. If it doesn’t work we will get back to what the manual specifies and works. Not going to argue with you.
