My original post is below from my pool build thread...but I don't think anyone reads that corner of the forum, so re-posting the questions here and back story.

So questions up front (keep in mind the PB said "no chemical additions" until the 28th):
- Can the pool survive until the 28th with just the SWG running at 50% (roughly 12 hrs per/day) without adding liquid chlorine?
- (new question) The pH is drastically bouncing from one end of the spectrum to the other. After the 4 gal. of muriatic acid on Thursday, the pH reading is back up above the readable scale.

Ok, I do have one question. And let me preface with, everything I'm about to type is because my PB still controls the pool until the 28th, and I don't want to void any warranties.

So in order to expose the blue quartz in the plaster, the contractors did a light acid wash before we started filling the pool. Everything went well, and now that I am brushing, everything looks even and there are a few small spots here and there that haven't been fully exposed. The startup guy said with 2x daily brushing, this will even out in time. I am really not worried about that, because it's barely noticeable.

Yesterday morning after fill up I tested the pH and it was (just guessing) around 10. I am assuming from reading here and pool school that the fresh plaster is the culprit for that. The startup guy added 4 gallons of muriatic acid, and I tested this morning and the pH was on the complete opposite side of the spectrum and too low to test. He also added 8 bags of salt, which brought the salinity up to(what I tested) 3600ppm, but the panel is reading 3400 and I'm assuming it's still stabilizing as the salt is balancing out in the water. The pump is running 24/7 on high speed and the SWG is set at 50%.

So here's the question: I asked about calcium additions, liquid chlorine and CYA, and he said not to add anything until the 28th (5 days) as the water chemistry is going to be all over the place. I know that the SWG will struggle to produce enough chlorine and with the lack of CYA, it won't hold in this hot Florida sun. Will it be ok until then to not add anything?

With a new pool you need to follow your builder's instructions. One thing I find odd though is with new plaster normality you'd wait 30 days to add salt and start the swg meanwhile adding liquid chlorine or even trichlor tabs. Your ph will rise a lot with a new plaster pool needing probably a gallon a week of muriatic acid.

Do you have a proper test kit like the tf-100? Please read pool school!

My signature hasn't changed in over a month...it's all there.

So I understand that the salt should not have been added, wasn't my choice. My concerns are:
1. The pH is back up over 8, I am just guessing it's around 9 or 10...after one day. And I have the ability and understanding of how to control it, but I can't due to PB instructions.
2. It is hot in Florida, the water temps are 88-90 depending on time of day, the SWG will not produce enough chlorine to get to any reasonable level, or maintain it until Wednesday. Again, I understand what should be done, but again, PB instructed me to not add anything.

Will I most likely be looking at a swamp by Wednesday when I get control over the chemicals?

I do have CYA, calcium, and muriatic acid already on hand in preparation to start balancing the water.

If it was me, I would add both Muriatic and Chlorine and keep the pH within parameters. I also would turn off the SWG and chlorinate with liquid. That is how I started my new plaster pool. Don't worry about any other chemicals for now. That said, I also added CYA within the first week.

BTW: When you browse from the phone browser you can't see the sigline.

Yeah, I am well prepared to accidentally let some muriatic acid and liquid chlorine drop in.....

I hear ya on the SWG...doesn't sit well with me either...but I figure if something happens to it, I can point them to the national plaster counsel recommendations and fight the good fight there...lol

Thanks for the quick feedback.

Sounds like a call to your PB is warranted.
Explain your readings. Ask when CYA will be added. Mention your high pH and low FC readings. Ask what he plans to do if/when the pool gets algae and turns green.

Yeah, I'm about to call. Mainly about the chlorine and high pH right now, but still going to buy some...hehe.

All other chemicals are my responsibility after Wednesday, and I knew that when we broke ground, so I have what I need on hand.

Thanks to everyone who replied. I may not come across as appreciative sometimes, but I truly am.

Just to let everyone know. I might have added muriatic acid and liquid chlorine as per the pool math recommendations. And everything looks good after testing. The FC tested 1ppm lower than expected, but that could be a combination of older bleach, some consumption killing whatever bugs were trying to live, and the sun.

As a side note, the plaster dust has subsided quit a bit and it's to the point where the water is staying clear after brushing. I will continue to brush 2x per day per the schedule posted here in Pool School. But all is well just waiting until next week when I can get the rest of the numbers balanced..

Thanks again!
