Drain covers, Skimmer lid covers, in deck umbrella holders, etc

So for a shade like you suggested it would likely need to be installed outside (above) the cage?
Well, since I obviously don't know what a cage is, or does, I guess I couldn't say! Is it screened in? For bug control?

The kind of sail I have has to be tensioned very tight. That's what makes it wind-proof. I expect that would be too much force on a cage. One corner of my sail is attached to my patio cover, and I reinforced that with a cross brace so that the sail wouldn't pull it out of square. Do they offer retractable canvas shades, or louver systems that fit to a cage? Google:

Some call it a cage others a screen enclosure :)

I wish I didn’t need the cage but betweenbiting insects, snakes, frogs, the trees in our yard it just makes sense to have one.
The pic you put with the shades inside the enclosure is a local company so I will see what the cost is. It wouldn’t be the same as the canvas that @PoolBrews has bit might work.

@Dirk thanks for the suggestions.

Do you need to the tools? Or is it easy enough to lift without the tools?
When you buy the kit it comes with the tools and everything you need. It is two stainless steel boxes that fit inside each other. Your decking materials get cut to size and glued to the outer box. You would not be able to lift it without the tools. Unless you stuck your hand in the skimmer to pop the lid up...

Hi,

We are getting closer to breaking ground on our pool. Our pool finish will be hydrazzo and the deck will be travertine pavers.
I would appreciate feedback on the following, and any other similar items. I have discussed the umbrella holders with the PB and having them bonded but not the skimmer cover or drain covers yet.

We will have dual main drains.

Skimmer cover for the deck:

Umbrella holders in deck. These sit flush with the deck:

They also have a 2" adapter for high winds. I was thinking this could be useful since we get some bad storms in the summer.

If anyone has experience with these products or similar I would love to hear about your thoughts. Also, are there any similar types of items that would be good to think of during the building process that I should consider?
Hi! Just curious as to how things are going with your pool! Would love to see what you did with your skimmer covers and drain covers. Thanks!!

I used the color grey and cut the pavers.

Screen Enclosures Shade Sails | Shade sails spice up Florida pool cages!

This is basically from Dirk's pic in the upper left corner. I haven't reached out to them yet, but am considering something like this as well. I too hate umbrellas. I think initially I will try a cantilevered umbrella and then if it drives me crazy, switch to this.

For me, I don't want extra holes in my deck (will have the ones for the safety fence). I have little ones, and don't need extra things for them to get toes caught in as they run around the pool.

For the skimmer cover, the hidden ones are nice, but I don't think anyone on earth is going to care if you have the plastic cover. You can take a piece of your travertine to lowes and paint match it to paint the cover if you want. Everyone has to make those decisions themselves, for me, it's just not that big of a deal.

I had the pebble top main drain covers, they were nice, definitely looked better than the standard covers, would recommend that.

Today they are installing the hydrazzo finish. We had two umbrella holders and the removable adapters installed in the decking. They poured concrete to set them and connected the bonding wire. One where our table sits and another where we plan to place chaise lounger chairs.

The PB ordered the HIDE skimmer but it showed up after the coping was completed. None of his guys knew what to do with it and they sent various people out and each had a crazy idea. I just told them to stop as it seemed they would do more harm than good trying to install. Then I came to find out they ordered the wrong size as they make them in a few different sizes depending on how thick the pavers are. It is still sitting on my deck in a box.

The main drain covers are going in today. That almost didn't happen because even though I notified/reminded the project manage several times over the past month when the pool prep guy was here yesterday he said he didnt have them and thought it would be hard to source. The PM said someone else was in charge of ordering so that PM called me. he said he found 8 in stock and would have them on site by this morning. Of course they werent here so I had to call and lay into them and then he went and picked them up and drove them over here.

Not sure if its just our pool builder USFbull or if they are all as unorganized, incompetent and unconcerned with their customers satisfaction, as ours is. I could never recommend our builder to anyone no matter how good the final product looks.
The things you are going through are ridiculous.
Sorry got off topic there but I was looking at the skimmer cover and is the intent just cosmetic or are there any structural benefits to this type of cover?

Just wanted to check in.....did they finally get the Pebble Main drain covers installed? If so...how do they look? Did it help to "hide" it a bit? We are in the middle of a reno...and am very interested in hiding my very off centered main drain. Thanks!!

Yeah, my guess they all suck to some degree. I wonder if ours sucks more than others? I also see why people opt to try the owner build route...
As for the HIDE skimmer not sure if structurally better? It hides it and can also keep kids out those were my two thoughts.

We used pour a lid on our skimmer covers. Since our decking is concrete, that's what they are. I'd say 5lbs each. ?? There are thumb holes to get a grip. From there, once the lid is off and sitting on the deck, the basket area is maybe what 8" across. It's not big. It's not something a ten year old would 'fall' into. And the lid is snug when it's on, nothing to trip on.

I like these a lot better than what we had ages ago. Those were heavy plastic and tacky looking.
