Power Outage - Anything else I should be doing?

Hey all,

So Isaias did some pretty good damage to westchester county in NY, and has left us without power since Tuesday, expecting to get it back tomorrow or Saturday.

Currently, with my CYA of 70, I've been keeping my FC levels in the higher end, around 10-11 the past couple days & brushing when poured in. CCs still remain at 0 for past 2 days and never had haven't had algae problems this year yet which is good (hope to keep it that way). But is there anything else I should be doing other than just monitoring my FC? Assuming filter, pump, etc won't get damaged without use for a couple days even when full of water? Should I drain those out? Here's what I've been doing last few days

-keep chlorine to 10-11 ppm and brush when added
-every couple of hours splash the water around, kick in shallow end, etc just to keep water from being stagnant
-leaf out debris as much as possible

Since you don't have a SWG, the only thing you won't be able to do is filter. You can always use your brush like a spoon in a stock pot to manually mix up the water after you add FC. I would do a bit more than just splash water around and you can make circles around your pool with the brush to get a little bit of a swirl going.

You are still going to have debris/dirt in the pool but keeping the FC level up and doing a good mix of the water at least once per day will save you a lot of hassle once the power comes back on. Try to get as many big leaves and sticks out as you can with your net or by hand. Anything organic will use up some FC but nothing will eat up FC like an algae bloom.

I bet the other people in your neighborhood without pools are going to be jealous that you have something fun to do while the power is out. This all sounds like a good problem to have considering the circumstances.
 
Oh yeah for sure, when I mean splash around, it also involves going around perimeter and making a swirl!

It's mostly just dirt and a couple leaves here and there now, the big stuff is out.

Yeah, it definitely could be worse, no trees hit the house fortunately and the pool / fence for the most part was untouched. A good problem for sure. Thanks for the insights!
 
As others here say, as long as the FC is below SLAM levels, and you can see the bottom, you can swim. And that will do a good amount of the mixing for you!
