How much Chlorine do you normally end up using to SLAM?

Hello, new ueser. trying to open this above the ground pool that came with this house we bought. basically a swamp.
I did a lot of reading and I am doing SLAM as of last night, with liquid chlorine. There's no shade for the pool so the sun eats up the chlorine a lot, and my CYA reading basically says I have no CYA.
What is the typical amount for people to spend on chlorine during SLAM process? I have an Intex 20x52 Round Above the Ground pool. Should I use stabilizer to add a bit of CYA and start SLAM again?

Thank you!

Add enough stabilizer to get to 30ppm or so. Continue with the SLAM until you pass all 3 criteria.

No typical amount, depends on algae amount, size pool, how often chlorine checked and added, how often brushed, how well the bottom is cleaned of leaves and trash, whether there are hidden algae spots in ladders, niches, etc.

Welcome pool new who has no idea what you're doing. Good news, we've all been there and you're in the right place to not become the dreaded "pool veteran who still has no idea what you're talking about". :p

Quick question: how are you testing your water?

I got one of the high-end testing kit from Leslie's Pool supply that tests Free Chlorine, Total Chlorine, pH, CYA, hardness, and something else I am forgetting. Was pricey but seemed worth it based on what i read.

Hi All, I'm in a process of SLAM right now. At the beginning I used some dichlor because my pool had 0 CYA, so i used it enough to bring the CYA level to 40, which means shock level is 16ppm.

here's the dumb part on me - the testing kit I have only tests up to 10ppm in FC! I could go get a proper FAS-DDP test, but unfortunately I was just tested positive for covid-19 so it would be incredibly irresponsible to be going out right now.

I read somewhere that diluting might be an option - can someone tell me how to do it? 1:1 pool water to tap water and then what?

Thank you :)
