Impact of CSI on SWG Cell Lifetime

I am aware that high CSI results in scaling on the plates inside the SWG cell. This requires more frequent acid washing of the cell. Acid washing, I believe, starts to eat away the cell platings which eventually cause the cell to fail.

Is the more frequent acid washings the ultimate cause of premature failure of the SWG cell?

Or does the scaling itself damage the cell independent of the acid washing?

Scaling prevents the plates from generating chlorine.

Acid washing strips the rare earth from the plates which is required to generate chlorine.

It is best to maintain a water chemistry that does not promote scaling in the SWG. Acid washing iG the plates should only be done when necessary.
