Hi all

1.5 hour sock test captured this! Small leaves, bugs, and beige sticky/grainy stuff (same stuff pool vac sucks up...see photo)

What’s the beige stuff and what’s going on here? I noticed it had blown through the sock and was adhered to the outside of the sock. It’s very sticky!A8D49012-F900-4614-9C70-773213281780.jpeg1519438F-7FBA-4A56-AD11-153694B37139.jpegD6DCA2E5-6C0D-42A7-BB81-1FD6F6A44D28.jpeg

I'm a bit surprised so much stuff is getting past your filter. It makes me wonder if you have a torn grid or finger allowing that stuff to pass. If so, that's a mechanical issue requiring repair as opposed to a chemical issue for things like algae or something slimy. Let's start with this:
- Can you post a full set of test results from your K-2006?
- Confirm when was the last time you opened-up the filter to inspect, clean, and recharge the filter?

We'll try to help more from there.

Hello, Texas Splash!

Thank you! I am surprised too. Terrible pool tech who opened for us cleaned DE filter and told me there were no tears but I wouldn’t be surprised if he caused them and lied about it. Grrr. Dealing with the equipment intimidates me But I’ll get there!

Anyway, I started SLAM today because we had cloudy water 2 days in a row and lost more than 1 ppm FC overnight last Night (Was down at 2this morning)

back to equipment needs: water pools on our Hayward multiport valve so I think I need to deal with o ring or spider gasket or the whole handle piece. No issues with leaking during backwash or anything...just the crazy debris.

thanks for thoughts on next steps.

Will do. Question: in YouTube videos one guy hosed off the DE filter while it was still in the tanK. Which seems like it would make a mess? Another pulled It into his driveway. Does it matter?

And what will tear look like? How large? If it is torn, what do I do?

finally: could faulty spider gasket cause all the debris to get past filter? Handle is very stiff and hard to move. But it does move. Thx.

PS I feel like I’m writing to a celebrity! 😆

I think most people pull the grids out completely for cleaning. Just give the best angle and affords the best visibility to inspect. That's important because a tear can be quite small and cause a mess in the pool. Also keep in mind that there could be a break or bad connection at the manifold. We have some good DE tutorial threads, but I can't link them right now because we are having some server/link issues. :hammer: If I can get to it later I'll share it. I don't think the spider gasket would have much to do with junk coming backwards into the pool. Out to WASTE sure. As for that sticky stuff, pollen maybe? Not sure. Algae wont be sticky. Not sure if it has anything to do with residual junk from winter closing? Hopefully no floc or clarifies was added to the water. That's the only thing I can think of that is gummy-like.

Pretty sure it is pollen. I'm dealing with the same thing, a slightly cloudy water, high pump pressure and low flow. Lots of light light brown / yellowish fine grime in my robot basket. Broke down my Quad 60 DE filter and completely clean it. It was full of the same brown/yellow grime. After running with a clean filter for around a day the cloudiness is almost gone and the filter pressure and water flow is back to normal. I did bump up my chlorine a bit

no floc or clarifiers added that I’m aware of. Glad to hear spider gasket is Likely not problem.
Should I wait until SLAM is done to pull it out? I finally got my DE and cup so I’m ready to backwash and rinse and recharge tomorrow if needed!!!

Hi everybody! We had TONS of pollen on Long Island these past weeks. Yes it’s on car and windows and everywhere! It’s on the downturn so hopefully that will clear up.
Cloudiness and FC loss indicated needed SLAM too so I started that today.

I’m glad That stuff is not DE. But the amount of bugs and small leaves and debris shooting out of the returns is still a mystery.

Can I wait until SLAM is done to open up the filter and check it out? I’ll backwash and rinse and recharge for sure.

Those a re good SLAM numbers. :goodjob: Stick with it, and as you said, at some, point you may have to go back into the filter for a second look. See if the tech missed something at opening. :hammer:
Help @Texas Splash! Day 2 of slam and pool is turning clear but green!
CYA 40
FC 11 this morning and added 1 gal
Cc .5
Ph 7.4
TA 90
Ch 140
OCLT 1ppm last night

liner staining is returning so I put polyfill in skimmers last night. They are turning brown. Plan to do another dose of MM when SLAM is done and FC drifts down.
Am I doing anything wrong??
